Westjet 787 Business Class INAUGURAL LONG HAUL FLIGHT! Phil: Nice one Noel. but. don't ever get delayed or have West Jet cancel your flight. they are a shower of stes. Flew from Dublin to St Johns, Newfoundland with them a few years back. grand easy 4 1/2 hour flight. Just like any other low cost operator. get what you expect. no argument there. Lovely week in St Johns, cracking people. All going well until we went to catch the return flight home. They couldn't land the 737-700 in St Johns due to high winds so, flight cancelled, and that's it. They wave you out of the airport. no support, no hotel, sweet FA. We managed to get a hotel and that night we got an e-mail that we were being rerouted to Dublin via Toronto! So, next day, hopped on Toronto flight. delayed 3 hours, so when we landed in Toronto, our Aer Lingus connection was taxying out for departure. so. again. waved out of Toronto airport like a bunch of lepers. Found an airport hotel, three of us had out Credit Cards scammed, rerouted by West Jet on Aer Lingus Toronto to Dublin the next afternoon. Eventually got home two days late. Customer service non existent. some experience. Keep up the good work. some good reviews

my first WL 787 to Gatwick flew direct but then it started running from Toronto to Gatwick, which was a bummer (Canada's a big country to cross on a small plane) WJ no longer has the LGW to YYZ route as they have moved back to their home town and hub in Calgary! this has raised many complaints from those in central Canada but for those of us who live in Canada's West Coast, it's a dream. liner come true. Now it's just 1. 5 hrs on a little 737 instead of 6 hours crossing Canada in a lipstick tube. This means more time enjoying WJ's excellent business class service and Super Diamond seats!
I flew on the last 787 flight from LGW to YYZ, the FA's were quite emotional, as they loved the route and didn't want to see it go. Fortunately, I ran into the same FA on a 787 flight from Vancouver to Toronto a while later, and we rejoiced at the new Calgary to Gatwick service. Now I just gave a short hop on a WJ 737 bus to get to Calgary before i can relax on a Dreamliner to Gatwick.
P. S. Dinner service is now very quick and has been consistently fast across numerous trips I've taken with them.

You asked why airlines hand out socks? Since this video was 2 years ago I'm guessing you know the answer by now but if you don't here's an educated guess. I drove for Greyhound in the U. S. for 33 years, spent 3 years as a union officer and flew to just about every location in said U. S.. In all those years, the one thing that caused me, my passengers and traveling companions the most constant grief was odorous feet. I often made an announcement when driving that went something like this. I understood that everyone has tired dog's (euphemism for feet) and everyone what's to let them out of their house (shoe's) to roam, but please be considerate of others around you by remembering that there's few smells worse than Wet dog's. I once had a gentleman that decided a great way to dry his socks was to place them over the HVAC system vents. cleared the bus out faster then if I'd yelled Fire. Hope this helps!

Meanwhile, back at the Lounge. Why is there a jug of baked beans in the middle of a breakfast plate? Come to think of it, why put baked beans in a jug? And. we're back in the room! Don't airlines put on a show with inaugural services? You know, this is what we're about. This is our service. This is what you can expect. Well done Westjet, now we know. A final thought, if they ran out of food selections, and didn't know what beverages were available in Business Class - what was it like back in Steerage? That being said, tongue-in-cheek, if that fare difference sticks, who cares if it takes five hours to get fed? Not me. It's just a pity that the window seats aren't window seats.

Other than the meal service, it looked like you had a good flight in general. I have to say I prefer to travel with Westjet. They do have great service and as much as I could afford the fancier flights, the trips within Canad have been good. I can tell you were frustrated though.
As a Canadian, I am obligated to say sorry for the slow food service. I love a good cup of tea, and I feel for you that it took so long.
I do hope you'll consider flying with them again. Working the kinks out after this I hope. Have you traveled much within Canada? I hope you would make your way to the east coast. PAL Airlines have set up a new route from St. John's, NL to Ottawa, ON.

Thanks so much for this Noel. Just found this on 14/11/21. I flew business class on British Midland from Manchester to Chicago in July 2006 on the holiday I won that went along Route66 to Los Angeles. Watching you eating I can't remember what I had all I can say it was great & the stewardess was amazing. She really looked after me as I'd had a bumpy start ( flight cancellation 24 hours earlier due to incident in Mumbai so I was put in a hotel in Manchester. The flight home to England after 11 days had its moments too but I survived thanks to airport staff in Los Angelas & Chicago.

Love watching but if I could make a suggestion that you be more consistent, two examples may be that you review the cleanliness of the bathroom each time and walk through the plane to show the difference between business and economy especially when flying out of some of the poorer countries where one might be surprised an airline even has a business class. I was also wondering if your meal reviews are based on whether you are served meals that are your favourites like Currys. just wondering

I doubt that I will be flying WestJet any time soon. Sure, on an inaugural flight there are kinks to be work out, but there is no excuse for the fact that flight attendants were unaware that they had more than one choice of tea and that they forgot to put your friends meal into the oven is totally inexcusable. These are training issues. Its as if each airline employee was on their first day on the job! See you in 15 years (if youre still around, West Jet.

I really enjoyed that video - I heard about WestJet's business class product & it's definitely something I'd seriously consider if (when) I visit Canada again!
I think you're probably correct in that most of those service issues were down to this being a new product - the cabin crew seemed really friendly, which is the main thing.
Poutine as well - you sold it to me with that (having tried proper Poutine in Montreal, many years ago!

Thank goodness West Jet have upgraded their transatlantic aircraft, I flew the Gatwick - Calgary route several times on their Boeing 767-300ER aircraft most of which were over 20 years old and aquired from Quantas. I experienced technical delays of many hours sometimes lasting up to a day. The service on board was friendly and efficient, the aircraft didn't have business class and Premium Economy was barely worth the price difference.

Wow I think you're too picky on the flight. Like maybe use your mouth to communicate that you would like a cup a tea! Your complaints annoy me sometimes! By the way I was on the same flight and I found the service to be excellent. I find airplane reviewers excpect everything for free. Like honestly the flight was awesome In my opinion!

Whoa there partner! Did you say WestJet is a low cost airline? You need to talk to my wife about that. Her work is in Calgary. Our home is Phoenix. Coach seating is generally at least $1500. Business (which means no one sits in the middle seat) is just under $2, 000. That a three hour flight each leg round trip. That is NOT low cost.

I don't know? I'm aware Boeing just started flying again? Noel will you be flying in one of their aircraft? Or will you wait for awhile? I'm glad the people at the airlines make the passengers, aware that will boarding a Boeing aircraft. Time to change their minds if not comfortable. Safe travels

i know this comment is rather far to late but, heres a much belated welcome to my city of calgary lol
also i feel like i need to add that when that flight opened up they were under staffed in the kitchen, i remember the huge hype about this flight becoming a big deal.

So I take it Noel that you always use a till operator when you go to the supermarket? Think your a snob, is this because youve a few followers now? Unbelievable, like to see you afford these flights without your sponsors, god knows why they do!

So so love these vlogs of yours. Wish i could become a patreon but besides the fact that our SA currency is rubbish, against the Pound or Dollar, its just not possible for me. But thank you so much for each and every vlog of yours i can see.

My how your camera work has improved over the years. And while WestJet did start off as a LCC, once it killed off CP (forced merger into AC, it became a regular fare carrier as it has remained, setting up a while ago its own LCC subsidiary.

We have a bit of a milkrun in YEG with KLM you should try on an Airbus A300-200 It goes Amsterdam, Calgary, Edmonton, Amsterdam. One of our very few international flights to Europe for YEG because Calgary steals them all. :(

Ive never seen a flight with that bad food service but Ive also never seen a flight with such a good selection of films! Especially a low cost one. Im guessing you dont get those on economy though
reply

west jet are not a low cost airline - they are expensive and of the main two carriers in canada - the other being air canada - its more expensive to fly in canada than fly to the uk on some flights
