Been here over 30 years, since a kid actually. i will give you the real deal. good bad. ugly.
#1 Best bike trails in the nation.
#2 Some of best libraries in the nation.
#3 some of the best hospitals in the nation.
#4 some of the best parks in the nation.
#5 some of the best museums in the nation.
#6 such a wide variety of food, and really good food.
#7 there are lots of local breweries and bars to drink.
#8 there are major sports teams for football, basketball, hockey if you are into sports.
#9 Clevelanders will try to help you out usually if they can, decent hardworking mostly blue collar folks.
#10 many different cultures
#11 there is a little italy, China Town, slavic village, so different areas you can go to hang and meet different locals of different cultures, similar to nyc, melting pot.
THE BAD
#1 there is a lot of poverty because of dumb politicians and terrible policies.
#2 major major major corruption. How do i know?
4 judges named Russo at Cleveland courts
So many judges named O'malley including the prosecutor being O'malley. Meaning the whole legal system here ran and owned by a few families, no joke, am I lying. ask Google.
#3 police violence here is real! They will beat your ass here with a quickness, so many say it is racism, I say to a degree seeing as they are equal opportunity beaters. The police will beat anyone regardless of color if they don't like you or you wish to assert your rights, they hate when you know your rights in my opinion. Mayor Jackson said the police will be getting more forceful after the whole downtown riot smash and grabs.
#4 a very violent city in some places. People are murdered here all the time like other big cities. My opinion is those murdered usually made an enemy while involved in some BS. If you live a private life for the most part and a clean life with very little dealings you should be ok.
#5 there is some real nasty air pollution here. The air is quite bad. Sure there are cities with more pollution, but still go by some of the major factories and watch the huge amounts of pollution going into the air.
#6 Cleveland (cuyahoga)has the highest property taxes of all the cities (counties) which I question how that is with so much poverty.
#7 the water is ok, not the best. not the worse, great part is we have tons of water being on the great lakes which means you can do lots water activies in the summer.
#8 we get snow and cold real bad occasionally. I love snow and winters and change of seasons, for me it seems natural. Some folks lose it over a little snow are the winter's that bad here, no it isn't bad at all.
#9 they take forever to clear roads after bad storms and they hate fixing roads the potholes are crazy but worse in some areas then others.
#10 they don't keep the city nearly clean enough from litter and trash. Downtown may be clean but once you leave there you will see the trash.
#11 some are very poor here I mean very poor like have almost nothing, how does that happen in America? That is why the cost of things is inexpensive for some things here.
#12 don't go to jail, so many die in their county jail while being there for something minor. There is also videos of people they have tied to chairs, beating them badly while tied to a chair, not joking here folks.

This is a majorly Democratic city. I could care less about politics but just know this is democrat land from their city council to their mayor. always.
So why did I say all this? I am not a liar and I feel all people deserve the truth about a place when they are new and traveling and don't know the area. I never wish for anyone to become a victim of their shitty court and jail system or some dumb thug either.
If coming here to visit you shouldn't go out at night in unknown places alone even driving through the area honestly in my opinion.
This city has a lot to offer that is so great but there is some real issues here. Until they fix them this city will continue to be relatively undesirable.
#13 Clevelanders have a certain tough and strong mentally because truth be told it is rough at times can be really harsh and you have to know how to operate and manuver here as far as where is safe and when it is safe always watching your back too. There are folks here with a heart of gold granted but still they are rough around the edges and guarded because this city and life here is no joke, maybe not as dangerous as nyc or chicago, but still you have too stay low key and always always always watch your surroundings and your back. If you go to the areas and places considered tourist areas you should be fine by the way. Don't go venturing out into unknown areas and never at night. If you want to see a lot of the city pay for a guide or get a trusted clevelaner you know who has been here for a while and you can go into those areas.
I wish you all well, enjoy your time here and the great things here, and keep coming back often to see the nice things including other parts of Ohio, a lot of beautiful natural waterfalls and tons of untouched nature throughout the state once you get out of the cities, I believe that to be the real beauty here.

I love Cleveland. I lived there for three years in the 1970's and again for three or four years in the 1990's Cleveland changed massively in those 20 years.
The flats by the Cuyahoga River was the super place to go in the 70's (lots of great bars and rstaurants) but was totally changed in the 90's.
Downtown Cleveland also changed. There was a restaurant named Otto Mosures (sp) that had been there for 50 years or so I guess, near Terminal Tower. It was old and greasy and had great food. By the 1990's it was gone and the new Otto Mosures had moved to the Playhouse Square area. Had none of the originality of the original.
Another thing about Cleveland. You are either an east sider or west sider. Of course there is no north side to the city (Lake Erie) or south side. In my years there I never heard anyone refer to Cleveland's south side.
I could go on and on but I won't and ask anyone to comment or correct my memories.

If more people traveled here downtowns population would increase from the 100, 000 or so it is now to 500, 000 or so. A lot of people would realize this is the place to be if one wants culture, food, entertainment and a great cost of living. Maybe thats why we have residential towers popping up left and right? Oh, and that tavern thats across the street from the Christmas Story house? Thats the tavern where Bob Clark and the producers got the owner of the house drunk enough to finally give in on using it for production! And the moniker Mistake on the Lake was not given to the city, it was given to the old Municipal Stadium that was built in an attempt to get the Worlds Fair.

Where you can't sleep at night because of the Numerous illegal Loud Mufflers and Music that will shake your House ALL hours of the day and Night. Where Beggers are on every Corner and outside every Business, where Armed Thieves roam the City looking for Victims, ect. ect. AND THE POLICE ARE NO WHERE IN SIGHT TO INFORCE THE LAWS.

My family has lived here since 1870s. Its the best kept secret around. I travel a lot but always come back home! Im East Prussian, Bohemian, Polish and Ukrainian. This place has everything for everybody! Check out Hansa on W. 28th and Lorain! Tremont and Fleet Ave still a neighborhood in transition. Share this with everyone! Omg! Sokol (Bohemian Hall on Pershing and Broadway. So many more to share.

At least Lake Erie dont catch fire anymore. Cleveland and s a great city that has become the butt of countless jokes. The Flats are send to be the trendy spot in the eighties.
If you enjoy architecture Cleveland offers great views. In the summer video sit Blossom. Janis Joplin was the first act to play there and its a wonderful place to see someone like James Taylor or the Cleveland Orchestra.

I fell in love with Cleveland! Had to go there awveral time for heart surgery and would seriously move there if it was a little warmer. I have a crazy time dealing with the cold and Im in Ohio. just way south of Cleveland! It gets cold but that lake effect cold is real guys! Beautiful place and beautiful people of all races, genders and cultures that seem to have gotten it right!

As a lifer here in the Cleveland area and all around the east side, you gave good advice. There are a few things like Chagrin Falls, Cleveland Hts (Coventry area) and Mentor Headlands Beach or Fairport Harbor. Oh yeah if your end up in the Coventry area just head down the hill on Mayfield Road and you will end up in Little Italy, great food there.

What a great video! We live in the city now, but are originally from Akron, and your review was superb. Found your videos when preparing to visit Munich but the pandemic happened. That 35 mph curve on the highway is called Dead Man's Curve for a reason! Great video. I've enjoyed your videos from Europe for a while now. I was surprised to see you in my hometown. I had no idea you could spend the night in the Christmas Story House, but good choice eating at the Rowley Inn across the street.
