Q&A (MRI Results, How To Stay Motivated, etc) Ludo Scotto: I dont know if youll ever get to read this but it might still be helpfull. I have one fully herniated disc and a bulging disc in my lumbar region and another thoracic bulging disc. It took me 4 years to get back into working out after my injury(it could have been a lot less time if I had found the right people to help me from the beginning. I still have to understand how hard I can push myself every day but at least now I can say that I found balance. I feel like this tipe of injury is very personal and requires a lot of experimentation to understand what helps you and what not. But its still possible to keep lifting while having this kind of problem, I would have loved to have someone telling me this when I completely stopped going to the gym because everyone was telling me so. I really hope youll find the way to keep your training sustainable. Good luck

Same exact situation for me David. Annulus fibrosis in L5-S1 disk. Turns out its herniated and was pressing on a nerve. Pain radiated my right leg and so much changed with me mentally. Lost all confidence and passion for the sport. Became scared of lifting. Felt weak and alone. Its been 8 months since surgery. Im too scared to deadlift. I ll be back in a few years. I changed a lot of my training to calisthenics. Definitely helped. Lost all my motivation now that Im dealing with school and work. Ive developed social anxiety ever since I got hurt and things hadnt really brightened up like I hoped they would as soon as I was cleared by my doctor. Lifes tough but we could only take it day by day David. Best of wishes to you homie keep doing your thing.

David i dont wanna be that guy that knows what you are going through because i dont but, if you are kinda feeling down cause of your back I really hope you fix it and heals you mentally. I just have one question (really not trying to be mean) but what exactly caused your lower back (i dont wanna make the same mistake as a newby) was it cause you were rounding your back in the early days? Too much deadlifts in a week? Again im sorry if i sound like a dick but im genuinely not trying to be one. I guess i should ask like should i deadlfit 2x a week or 1x in your opinion

Highly recommend that you check out stewart mcgill and brian caroll about your lower back. If your discs are bulging posterior focus on maintaining a nuetral lower back and avoid flexion. Yoga might actually be detrimental if the positions require flexion or twisting which further pushes those discs outwards. Alot of world-class powerliters have suffered worse back injuries but have fully regained their strength/are symptom free.

Just at the point in the video where he's talking about his high school lifting days, and yesterday I decided to max out on deadlift after working deadlifts and back the previous day and working out 6 days straight a week heavy prior to that with no rest. So yeah. Gonna take 2 rest days now lol. But I hit a PR.

Glad to know youre taking precautions to your physical health Dave, ive been a fan for years and it would even pain me to see something happen that prohibits you from even going to the gym. But thats the name of the game. Youre smart enough not to let that happen though. PS cant wait to try the pre dude

Dave youve had these back problems for like 2-3 years on and off. If you ever want to lift like your old self believe me you need lumbar surgery to get rid of those discs, otherwise your issues will go away for a bit and come back consistently, whereas surgery will permanently solve your problem

Love your point on motivation. I had read online to cherish the days you feel motivated but the days where you aren't motivated but still go to the gym are when you make your gains. Hope you heal up, man, you've been super fun to follow over the years.
