X Love handles is a strange term since it's tough to find a man (or woman for that matter) who loves having them! It's used to describe the body fat that accumulates on the hips just above the pelvis. In order to get rid of love handles however, we first have to break down all the myths and misinformation that surrounds this area. In this Truth about Love Handles (How to Get Rid of Them) video I show you not only what causes them but also what you need to do to lose them! Losing your love handles can only occur with a two pronged attack. One must focus on your nutrition and making sure you shed your excess body fat and the other focuses in on using the right exercises for love handles. Interestingly, the external obliques are at the heart of this stubborn area of fat. That said, the best love handle exercises are going to be those that involve and target this muscle the way it's meant to be trained. I show you not only what not to do, but also what I feel is the best way to get rid of love handles through both exercises and nutrition. This exercise not only can not only be used to workout love handles but fits in nicely with any oblique workout that you are currently doing. Doing 2-3 sets of 15-20 reps on both sides is a good start. Make sure that when you are doing this exercise that you don't push too much with the arms but focus on making the abs and core do most of the work

Here's something to chew on, Jeff. When I was younger and very fit, I found in the rare occasion where I put on a few pounds, much of it seemed to go to my love handle region.
Are you saying my obliques got weaker and more in need of exercise by me putting on those few pounds?
Seriously. Smarten up. Everybody puts weight on in certain regions of the body in a certain order and when they lose the weight, it comes off in the reverse order.
Read a book or something.

but aren't DB side-bends meant to work obliques at the opposite side!
when you bend to the right say, the work is done on your left obliques. You just need to do one rep to see this. Obviously the side that bends does nothing. Same as side planks work on the obliques at the 'ceiling' side, not on those at the 'floor' side.

I always think that people with really low body fat have gotta be in more danger if they get stabbed or even blunt force trauma. Because they have no cushioning haha no seriously I remember a nurse tellling a story along those lines saying if the guy had 10percent less BF the knife would have hit organ and artery

I was surprised he never mentioned that if you want to get rid of them, at least most of what us guys have, you need to reduce your % body fat. If you train them properly, as he demonstrates, and they are covered in layers of visceral fat -- I still don't think we will like them.

you say DB side bend is bad for guys with a stubby lower torso as it will thicken it out further. what about the opposite? i have a very long lower torso (and am very lean) and am looking to thicken it out. should i be doing more DB side bends then?

What about the rotation you do on an elliptical machine, if you concentrate in your core movement (instead of legs or pushing/pulling the bars with your arms) does the elliptical machine rotation help towards getting rid of love handles?

About 20 years ago, I told someone I wanted to lose my stomach. The response: You can do all ab training you want. And the muscle will be there. Up under all that fat. Proper diet and proper excercise have to work together. Good video.

the people in this comment sections are idiots he clearly said for lean people the problem is overdeveloped quadratus lumborum so we need to better focus on obliques through rotation rather than lateral flexion.

You cannot burn fat in specific areas with specific exercises! You can do crunches all day long and it won't make only your gut go away, the same as these exercises won't eliminate just the love handles!

My love handles are almost gone because I walk on average 13190 steps per day. If I go over on my calories, I walk more. It's also really helped recovery time.
