You could add ram, it is more expensive but photoshop uses ram first, then runs out of ram, and then some of your photoshop file will overflow on your slower scratch disks.
DD4 Ram goes at 12. 80 - 25. 60 gigabytes a second depending on the ram speed (1600 mHz to 3200 mHz.
16 Gigs of ram costs $80 USD.
Scratch Disk Options:
A good m. 2 ssd (looks like a stick of gum) goes at 4. 0 gigs/s, a bad one goes at 1. 4 gig/s.
A good 2. 5 inch SSD (looks like a thin pack of cigarettes) goes at 0. 65 gig/s, a bad ssd goes at 0. 30 gig/s.
A slow spinning 3. 5 inch HDD (size of 2 stacked PS4 game cases) goes at 0. 14 gig/s.
Each option gets cheaper and slower in speed.
Photoshop also tells you how much space your document needs on the bottom left hand corner. That space is how much space you need for your ram and scratch disk combined. So you don't buy too much slow scratch disk storage, but rather buy less scratch disk storage that is faster.

So many people talk about the easy clean up and purge files. That is so simple but doesn't solve the issue if yu cant purge. Why not tell people how to create a scratch on another free drive? So much waffle in the video, I had to skip through but couldn't find where you described how to create an extra scratch disk and you had so much simplistic beginner stuff that it was painful to watch.

Pro Tips Get a 2nd harddrive
Create a folder called Fake C Disk on the new HDD.
Create folder Fake Download, Fake Document, Fake Photo, Fake Video.
then move all files from download folder to fake download, then all from photo to fake photo, etc. etc.
you could also create Fake Desktop so everytime desktop gets full of shit, you just drop them into that folder.

with all your shitty tips to clear the cache, and tips that are worth nothing, I advise people to uninstall photoshop then reinstall it= it's 10 times easier!
avec tous vos conseils de merde pour effacer le cache, et conseils qui ne valent rien, je conseille aux gens de desinstaller photoshop puis le reinstaller= c'est 10 fois plus simple!

I don't mean to be rude or entitled, but it would have been nice to identify the title of the folder that Adobe signs for scratch disks. I cannot find it, and running the disk clean up does not appear to be clearing out that file. Regardless, nice video.

Hello! Thank you for this! Unfortunately, my external hard drive does not even appear as an option for alternative scratch disc. I assume plug it in my laptop is not enough?

Hi, great video. Even though I have 2 SSD external hard drives connected to my Mac, only 1 appears (Active) on the scratch disks window. Is there something that I am missing?
reply

Awesome! Can I use an extra HDD and connect it directly to my PC with at least 160GB just for all the Adobe Scratch Disks? Is 160GB enough just for the scratch disks?
reply

I have 160 GB free space in C drive still it is showing Scratch disk error.
I have only c drive in my laptop.
What to do?
