I took a glance at both laptops today at the MS store. They didn't impress me as much as I thought they would. The design is OK-ish. Not very premium, in my opinion. The specs are a lackluster. No Thunderbolt 3. Screen resolution is just 2. 2K on the 13 inch model. Compare this to the HP spectre x360 laptop I got 1. 5 years ago which has 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports and a 4K display. So Surface 3 13 inch doesn't look like too much of an upgrade to me.

There is an USBC adapter for the surface connect.
But here is my question.
Since the icelake processors have thunderbolt 3 on the chip, will the surface connect soon have a tb3 adapter that connects to the surface connect as a adapter in the future?

How does the surface pro X compare to the surface laptops and would you advice a programming (Computer Science) student picks one? How effective would it be in reality for compiling codes and doing some basic CAD works?

Can you open the laptop /display lid with one hand like with a mac or do you have to hold down the laptop?
That's one thing that really annoys me on any other laptop than a macbook.

I love the ideal of the fabric coating but I wonder, for those who have owned one of these laptops with said coating for a few years, has it lasted or has it warn off and look horrible?

Why does the Surface Laptop 3 display look so dim? That's the only thing that annoys me and holding me back from buying one--the screen brightness is not enough!

Yeah the pricing is not quite right since both models here had the max spec cpu and probably max RAM as well. So it's going to cost a lot more for both i7 /Ryzen 3700.

I like the trackpad on the Surface Books better. plasticky feel on the Surface Laptop vice the glass-feel on the Surface book. Other than that, the Laptop looks great
