optane should be marketing together with ram as -memory- thats for sure. but to be honest for people that are just doing web browsing and office stuff (no hard gaaming) then i think a 4gb laptop with 16gb optane and a spinning hardrive would probalby be faster than an 8gb laptop with only a spinning hardrive
reply

Brad all but confirmed you can explain optane very fast. You have to explain other terms like cache before folks would fully understand what it does. It's a hybrid product that isnt exactly easy to articulate exactly what it does to a noob.
reply

a) Optane is RAM.
b) NAND Flash can be called memory as well.
c) It is completely disgusting that they're being allowed to promote it this way. This is not a mistake by the marketing team.

Nice to know that Adam still uses Vinyl i have 2 Turntables a AR Legend from 1983 and a Thorens TD166 Mk2 from about 1978 sometimes Old Tech is still Better than New Tech
reply

I would simply call Optane as -storage accelerator-. It makes it clear that the storage experience is better with it. No way is it OK to call it -memory-.
reply

Brain=cpu, tool in hand=ram, tools in tool belt=optane, tools on the peg board=ssd, tools buried in tool box=Hard drive, and tools left at home= tape drive
reply

I don't understand why they can't call Optane a high speed storage cache or buffer. What's wrong with that?
No confusion and easily explained.

reply

Optane memory is a basically a RAMDrive, it stores data in memory with power off. RAMDrives uses memory as a hard drive so very similar concept.

Surprised you didn't bring up Intel moving to UWD; lots of people are upset because they hate Windows 10; with good reason
