Less than a minute in - to help put things into perspective, I think it's perfectly reasonable to say that if government agencies wanted a peek at your files or anything you've done or stored locally, Microsoft would do nothing to prevent it, and might even help.
So it's not that every single user is being actively targeted. That isn't and has never been realistic. You would need highly advanced AI to be capable of that. Which - I think they're working on it and current day telemetry is part of that, but in the here and now, no, your nudes are not being leaked to the NSA through your operating system.
They're being leaked through Google and Android - the stuff you give deep access to your files on various devices without giving it much thought, as well as any services you send data through that are not airtight on both ends.
In 2022, the bigger concern is that the telemetry grows more invasive and becomes harder to turn off with every iteration, and it's not unreasonable to think you will eventually reach a point where - as the end user - you can't turn it off without breaking the law or violating the terms of service. That's the direction every centralized platform is trending - software as a service, up to and including the stuff necessary to keep your device active.
You aren't screwed if you use Windows, especially if you lock it down. But it's also foolish to trust Microsoft, and it's a really good idea to at least learn Linux now before they introduce something really steps over the line and is difficult to impossible to back out of once it's implemented.
I know your views have evolved a lot over the years and I don't know what you're about to say or whether your views on Windows are similar to what you expressed here. This comment is for the future in case anyone stumbles on it. If it's still here, it's not too late - learn how to take control of your tech before it takes control of you.

Well, let me tell you a little personal experience that I had with MS...
I was doing a self build and puchased Windows 10 to install on it. I wound up with a problem with activation - so I called up and spoke with a tech in India.
Here's what he didn't say:
Option 1 - -Please go to this particular website and download and install this particular app and then tell me the number that it presnts to you so that I can set up a remote login session with you-
Nor did he say -
Option 2 - - I need you to go into you administartive tools area in Windows and activate this background program that allows me access to your PC for a remote log in session.-
No he just chose ...
Option 3 - -Can you tell me what your MS email address is?-
I gave him that and as I was in the process of giving it, I accidently clicked on an icon in my task bar which triggered a -system sound- like -Ka-bing!!!
A fraction of second later, I heard that same -Ka-Bing!!!- sound come through my phone - which means that he was already in a remote desktop session - seeing and hearing everything that I was doing on my Windows 10 desktop !!!
So that's all he needed - just the account email - an then ther's a guy in India watching everything that I'm doing on my desktop without me being aware! That's all they need about you - and when they're sitting around just bored and need some -stimulation-, you'll provide it for them - without being aware of it.

Windows 10 is basicaly nothing else then spyware instaled on your computer,OS is there just to cover up tracks,or try to do so.This is enough for unexperienced people to buy it,and install this piece of shit calling operating system. If you have needs for windows, use windows 7,and never dream about instaling win 10 or 8.
But if you care about your privacy Linux is best choice. It is fast, secure, and coming in a lots of choices and editions. Most important thing is that linux kernel is very low level admin,so it's very hard to messing with it,yea it's far from imposible but if you compare it with windows is like comparing day and night.
Most important thing is,Linux is totally open source, there is no any kind of tellemetry hidden deep inside, you can update it from a safe depositories if you want, but you have option just to disable it and never worry about it again, same is with traces that are left on your hard drive after you turn off PC.
Linux will wipe out all traces of your previos session if you tell him to do so,and this is just tip of the iceberg...
From my personal opinion golden age of microsofts Operating systems is long dead, and will not be back ever again, cause there is a rising need of cyber surveilance all over the world, and windows is just one of casualties in this war...
Stay safe people.

Lol, all corporations are evil because they only care about profits. One of the biggest profits in todays markets is data collection. Data collection started with banks selling their costumers information to telemarketers (things like your name, your phone number, cost of your house and etc. (saw this in a 60 minutes episode years ago)). They can then use this data so they can help them sell more products. Now, the government has put regulation on telemarketers harassing you but I've not heard of no new regulations on corporation selling off personal data.
When I went to college, at the start of the new millennium, two of the major courses that the college was pushing on every degree was sociology and statistics. Can you guess why? It isn't about understanding our society but rather, simplifying our society with mathematical equations. Taking in data to help format ways to sell products to people.

Just stop for a minute and take all of these things into consideration. This is your computer that you paid for. It-s your electricity bill, hard drive usage, internet bandwidth, and the rest of it. Why submit to this corporate bureaucracy that has abused and abandoned its users? Most people only need to run Windows for a very small percentage of the time. For a niche application or to enjoy a movie or a video game that cannot yet be had on Linux or an alternative platform. Join me in abandoning Microsoft for more than 90% of your Computing life. They've created a toy operating system in a professional wrapper that-s full of spyware. Treat it as such.- This is a great video Chris. You're doing fine work here.

I came to this video because the only time I can use my MS windows computer without lag is when I disable the internet. That's what made me think Microsoft is spying on me. When I'm on the internet, I would get an update every single day it seems like, my battery life would drastically deplete faster than offline usage, but the lag just trying to handle simple task became unbearable. It's a shame, I have to use my 400.00 Android cell phone for simple task while on the internet when I have 1,000.00 laptop that should surpass anything I can do on a cell phone. This just sucks MS. Sorry about the rant.

Using illegally collected and monetized data to social engineer isn't evil? I think it is. By progressively narrowing the gap between consumer and individual choice and provided market and social options is straight-up social engineering. Sorry, this is evil. MS is evil. Google is evil. They have no business trying to groom everyone into their version of an ideal citizen/consumer, which is pretty much the same thing to them.

Yes.
#1. They do not come out and tell you they are keylogging all your typing and all your browsing.
#2. It should have an Opt-In as a default - and all the 'data collection' disabled by default install. You should have to explicitly opt-in to use it.
#3. Various government agencies have banned the use of Windows 10, so if the spy guys panicked when they dug deep into Windows 10, you probably do not want it either.

0:07 Yeah they are, don't be so naive. You only have to look at the -privacy- settings in settings. Microsoft doesn't need to ask permission to use your camera or microphone as access is already granted by default. You think an agency like NSA or CIA wouldn't know how to access this info or make some closed door agreement with Microsoft for this access and info? umm sure ok. 0:54 right?
