Trading Stocks On Linux DistroTube One of the questions that I often get about Linux software is the availability is stock trading programs. There are several brokerages that support Linux and have native Linux desktop clients

Nice one DT. While I don't trade, I see the value to this video. I think you are finding a newish niche for yourself (and that's good) showing us little known applications is refreshing. Too many Linux content producers are rehashing the same old thing. And what's worse about that comment; others creators will follow the same pattern. The distro run-thoughs are nice too but as you know, there is no shortage of folks doing these. You see one, you can pretty much figure you seen em all. What I would like to see some folks do; come up with a list of issues that you have worked through. That would be a nice trick from time to time. Seeing real-life problems with answers on how to get around them. Granted, we may not see many during our own uses but they do happen. I do miss the bi-weekly (insert your view on the meaning) of your Linux info-news though. It's been a spell since you did one.

Hi,
Thanks for the vid. I didn't know Tasty. I will consider it :)
Also there is a free trading software it's MotiveWave Community Edition (All other edition are pricey). But you can use it to learn on any system because it's Java based. It has a paper trading system ! It work with a lot of brokers, maybe not as cheap as Tasty. The soft is great full of functionalities. A bit complex for a beginner.
No web or app though ! But a cloud data option free option even with the Community Edition

Sierra Chart is VERY FAST and fully programmable. Runs on Linux/wine and really is faster than on native Windows. Using their new execution platform it's possible to get 1 ms fills for your orders so you are able to do some kind of HFT if needed. Full history data support from their own database. This setup is very versatile from noobs up to the highest pro level.

Hey DT, in the thinkorswim launcher you can add some flags to make TOS use your GPU instead of your CPU for the charts. I noticed a HUGE difference in performance after I made an edit to the launcher. Not sure why they don't have it enabled by default. Search -thinkorswim performance improvement linux- to find the lines to add to your launcher.

Where can I start learning how to combine python with options trading? I am proficient at building strategies conceptually, but I lack coding knowledge and would like to dive into this in a recommendable way.
I got to meet Tom in the earlier years of this brokerage, cool guy, definitely opened my eyes to the modern financial world.

Of course I use Fidelity. Their Active Pro Trader software probably works on Wine but I just trade from their mobile app or website and I use other charting websites for technical info since Fidelity's charts are garbage. I do swing trading on 4-hour aggregate charting so making quick trades isn't very important in my case.

1For clients who intend to run thinkorswim on Linux, Solaris or other Unix variants, manual update of the software is required, and we have no official support for configuring these systems. If you are using a non-Windows platform, some of the embedded content may not be available.

Hey DT, I just made a small purchase today with TastyWorks. If it does well, I'll definitely become a Patreon supporter. :) Great video and you helped me find a good program to start trading stocks. Wish me luck!

Hey! Please make a video of your current Linux OS
Also share your config files for the customization
I tried i3 but my laptop has a 4K screen, so I had trouble with the very tiny font :(
