Hey, DT. You Need A Better Studio!- (Plus Other Comments I Get) DistroTube In this lengthy rant video, I address a few questions and comments that I've been receiving from viewers. I discuss alternatives to the Ubuntu Software Center, alternatives to the term proprietary garbage, what software you should install alongside your window managers in Arch Linux, VirtualBox versus Virt-Manager, and my recording setup and why I need a proper studio

Hey DT: Im into linux something like 2 years now. And I like a lot about linux, but I still have a pitfall im allways running into. I try to open stuff with a graphical editor and I dont have the rights to write it. So I have to close my editor, reopen it with root, then my linux of joice is offcourse compliain that its uper unsafe.
I don't kind of get this, why is it so hard to prompt me for elevating my rights? Vscode is able to do it (sorry for mentioning vscode). But I think there must be some reasoning behind it why it can not elevate me on a try. Is it just not -common-, or what is it all behind. I appreciate your answer, maybe in another video ;)

but the real question is... isn't all poo proprietary? I guess if I made a public announcement on what I have eaten recently then it wouldn't be proprietary poo? or what if the item used to create that poo is proprietary? like KFC who has a secret recipe for their chicken?? anyway I guess at the end of the day -Proprietary- and -Poo- go hand in hand as they are both made up of shit

Since you are 'free software' advocate and 'true believer' why are you asking for money donations (which patreon is)? It seems to me that you believe that you should be paid for producing your videos, even if it is volunteer payment (nothing wrong with that). But isn't that making your videos proprietary 'garbage'? Or maybe just making you kind of a hypocrite?

Isn't the Ubuntu software store thingy a snap? That would probably explain the slow comment especially the first impression of any snap. I thought the software I was trying failed to launch and a minute or two later it suddenly popped on screen. If you're not expecting that it can be very frustrating.

I will say a benefit to the GUI app store is that they combine multiple package managers. The Gnome Software app gives one interface for your distro's package manager (for most distros), flatpak, and snap. It would be convenient if there was a CLI application that could combine all 3.

Hey DT , can you calculate how much money it would have all costed you if all your free and open source software was proprietary. So in stead of Linux a window s licence instead of gimp adobe and instead of open office Microsoft. How much money worth would all that be ?

Hey, DT. Why does Linux for artists suck so freaking much? Photo, video, audio editing software is DECADES behind the competition. When are we going to get Ableton, AfterEffects or something that is on comparable level of finesse on Linux?

I agree with you exchanging terms for proprietery garbage, mainly because Im not fluent in english and want to learn more about the english language. If you think so, you can be very eloquent and verbose when you say things about Linux.

Ubuntu is the friendliest app store. if you can do two things in Windows; open the folder - programs files, open the folder documents or music; this means you will have no problem using Ubuntu)

hey DT, I'm not sure if you have mentioned this utility before, it is called -unclutter-. It hides your mouse cursor after x seconds of not moving the mouse. I think you would like it
