I would not say we have won, Microsoft will support Linux, they have before they still maintained VM kernel source as well. MS is not afraid that Linux will overtake MS, that will never happen. There is no money in operating systems not like there used to be pre windows 10, something that Google has known for years, the money is in your telemetry data that all these browser's, and programs and phones collect about you. This allows them to customize and market solutions tailored to you.
MS does not care if they make a Linux port, because even on Linux they still lock you to there ecosystem. Cause then you will want to use the edge browser, and then the Microsoft launcher. Then they get more and more data. The os is just the means to the end, prime example do you think google gives a crap that there phones run Linux ? They don't but they sure love all the personal telemetry that you feed them every month so they can fill your box with tailored ad's and or on your phone show you relevant data that you will click and buy. Do not think these companies are doing it to embrace FOSS.

Linux is probably the best thing that happened in the last decades!
It-s free, easy to use, can run on minimal specs, you can do what you want and managing your system is so much more easy than windows.
You literally have to write 1 line in the Terminal to remove/install software or to update your packages.
In Windows ... well you have to go to the system settings .. then you have to pick the right one since there are 2 system settings for some reason both showing different stuff. Then you need to scroll and look for the program and finally you can say -remove-.
Or on Windows you need to uninstall all this bloatware, that comes with it. Like Candy Crush Saga or other stuff.
Also Windows uses more than 2 GB RAM in idle when doing nothing... I don-t want to know what Spyware is running in the background.
Meanwhile my Ubuntu Mate 20.04 uses less than 500 MB Ram in idle.
Linux is just way more efficient and snappier.

The only thing holding me back from fully switching to linux is the support. I always have some issues with it, like nvidia drivers breaking the whole de, no windows only programs and drivers (custom mouse acceleration quake3-like), hardware problems (delayed sound) etc. And its just so much harder to configure properly for my needs. Ive wasted hours reading documentation about pulseaudio and alsa to reduce that delay, but after some reboots it got rid of it. While windows 10 is rock stable for me. And i dont really care about all that telemetry, and probably most gamers dont too. But i can say, that microsoft has been very lazy the past couple years, like major windows 10 updates dont feel major at all, and they too can sometimes break stuff. I do really hope that linux will rise like amd did. Its actually quite a similar situation.

Linux in general has been improving at faster rates, I would not be surprised to see that at 5 to 10 percent. Even some manufactures are even shipping with linux already installed with all devices working. Besides distro connect to the cloud why need windows and all them problems with updates that break things. Only reason I use linux is its tools allow me to function in the cloud, Linux can stay up and running for years. Mac OS is moving to a unified structure where iphone, ipad, decktop, laptop martket are on the same cloud connected os. Would not be surprised we see computers jump to cars and flying drones.

Windows 10 is creepy as F to use . I was fed up with (dll crap , ransomware , malware , stuck at welcome screen ,BSOD ,windows is updating message , explorer freezing , random app ads on the start menu )
So I switched to Linux (Manjaro gnome) , I love gimp , krita ,blender and awesome gnome and kde apps , resolve )
I have rarely boot into windows nowadays , I am greeted with a beautiful silent desktop every day and it just works so well, everything is so peaceful calm in a Linux environment , I also use lutris to play my games on linux (the game mode is great too).

I hate to be that guy but this isn't even true. This happens every single time due to a glitch. It is always odd that this weird spike and glitch happens around new releases of Ubuntu. Look at the release cycle it always is just prior to or following a major Ubuntu release. Netmarketshare has admitted this is a glitch in the past several times. What always happens is this data always tapers off until Linux starts declining once again below the prior spike. It always does. I hate to crush your dreams guys but it will once again come out an error like it always has.

As long as ubuntu will require some tweaking (eg: options nvidia-drm modeset=1) to get rid of some visual tearing with Nvidia card, a major leap won't happen. Ubuntu is ''great'' for new Linux users but Nvidia need to step in the freaking game. After installing Ubuntu for dual boot on a laptop with nvidia discrete graphic, sure, everything ''works'', but the fact that you have to spend 2 hours reading and trying stuff out to make it perfectly smooth is still a dealbreaker. Ironically, on the same machine, absolutely no visual tearing with Archlinux with KDE.

In India, especially in Kerala the school IT curriculum runs Ubuntu (of course for affordability). And gradually it gained popularity in government offices too. All our offices work seamlessly on Linux powered systems with absolutely no issues. I don't know about other nations, but I feel if Ubuntu is taught at schools that's gonna change the whole story for the open source. I believe then quality programs will be made for Ubuntu Linux.

For those who want to explore Linux, but are still into games and other paid packages, I would recommend obtaining a cheap ssd and usb3 enclosure and install whatever Linux distro they fancy on there..This way you can boot to YOUR linux sys from ANY laptop/pc. I use Mint Cinnamon, after a considerable amount of distro hopping, but that's only me.

I have used 20.04
I hated Ubuntu. But...20.04 and by extension 19.10 have held together better than every other installation of Ubuntu to date that I have attempted to use.
Possible a controversial opinion here, but I think canonical did the right thing ditching unity. It allowed them to focus on actually making their base OS stable.
