The same reason LF uses Apple is the same reason many are getting -woke- and going broke. They lack the confidence in what they're doing. I think it's a strong sign when they can't even use the products they claim to stand for. I mean just imagine a WWDC event and instead of using Apple products on stage, they used Windows and Android. I don't think you need to know much to see how that could be viewed. A huge company like Apple no doubt is well aware of this. Imagine walking in to an Apple store and the Apple employee greets you with a Andriod tablet! Yeah, nothing screams confidence like not using your own products. Imagine how that looks to say donors, or developers. Very bad. Well this -woke- stuff in business by the way is of no better. Because of how that stuff is geared. I might sound a little old fashioned here, but the old truths of marketing doesn't change and thats because human nature doesn't change. To give you an idea of what I am leading to, even in the age of #metoo porn site traffic is even higher. You would think naturally men would probably be a little more self aware and try to hide their desires, but it turns out not so much. Again, human nature doesn't change. The fact they won't even use Linux in an age when it's so easy is just plain dumbfounded. That I believe impacts the image of open software as a whole.

the terrible influencing is already there, even you admit that quite openly. now there's no way in hell most linux users, at least the ones i know (not many around here by the way ;) ) would never agree to what they push in a soft or a hard way. now their MOST terrible influencing, well its just a matter of time but it will come once they get a bigger foothold. its the nature of their greedy beast. you don't allow the devil in your house (or for that matter vampires) and expect them to behave in the long run. they will suck your blood sooner or later. jc you are incredibly optimistic my inspired tuber and perhaps a bit naive if you think anyone can manage their behavior. they will NEVER be transparent to anyone about their true intentions and maneuvers. stick out the garlic and don't let them in, their good is no good. if the ww2 taught us something is never to be agreeable to the bad guys.
me: remembering the -we have peace in our time- neville chamberlain in his 30 september 1938 speech concerning the munich agreement with hitler and mussolini.

The Elephant in the room is thus....people are NOT immortal.....but ideas and concepts can live many life times. Linus (God bless him) should be allowed to retire (and I know what that will mean to all of us....BUT HEY....he's not a God...just a man). Albeit a man who truly thought different.....thought in binary (in fact) and from that gave the world something truly amazing. But I state that to illustrate this, at some important point (soon), those companies who would crumble if Linux doesn't have another dictator, would sooner continue Linux than let retirement or death end it. And this gives me peace....because so long as the WORLD need Linux (my friends) she will endure even the death of her creator....and that makes knowing Linux and investing it all towards it a worthy (marketable) endeavor (politics and ideals aside). And for the record....I run a Octo-boot PC with 8 distros....so I use Linux....lots and lots of different desktop environments.....

If I would be in place of those big companies, I'd be wondered by the impact the open source projects are making on everyone. Just for example, if you can't afford Photoshop, Maya or any paid software, the only thing the consumer choose are the free ones. If you've GIMP, Blender or any other software that works as fine as them, then why bother buying the costly one. So, investing on them might can be a good idea. But from a business perspective, how? I'd say I'll infiltrate the open source community and I'll try to convince them to take money out of their products. But I don't know how exactly they think. They must have had thought something before acting so I can just predict on the basis of probability.

Ofc they all use win or mac at their conferences, unfortunately there's no quality linux graphical environment available, they all are pretty buggy, look ugly without tweaking but get even more buggy if tweaked. Still lots of issues with keyboard layouts, bluetooth devices etc. And as you come across an issue you can often find a ton of complaints on forums that have been posted hundreds times every year since 10-15 years ago. I'm not surprised why average non-tech people prefer to pay extra 100-150 bucks for commercial OSes.
P.S. But I installed Ubuntu on my dad's laptop cuz he'd been crashing win every 2-3 months. For people like him linux is the only choice =))

Guys, be realistic. You want Linux to be a well-functioning operating system. You also don't want big corporations to pay for it, as you're afraid that Linux can be badly influenced by them. You don't want the governments to pay for it, as you're afraid of backdoors. You yourself either don't pay for it or at best donate 10-20 bucks once in a while to Linux development (no judgement at all, most people in the world are poor and cannot afford even that, or there are more decent causes to donate money for). So, how do you want that to work? How do you fund thousands of good developers (whose labor costs someting lile $100 an hour each) working full-time?

Linux is moving toward MS the question is how fast Linux move toward MS,Google...etc?
IBM Fedora & Redhat, Suse - OpenSuse, NASA - Debian, Amazon, Google...etc. IBM they forced the RedHat project to change their licences agreement. Every major project in Linux from Kernel level to the app, distros level is found by MS. Microsoft have Chair of the Board (COB) in Linux. MS is playing important part of Linux policy. All linux distros are moving toward MS and Ubuntu is not the only one but the different is the speed of the movement toward MS is various from distro to another. Embrace, extend, and extinguish.

Thumbs down because you were not negative enough or suggested the bylaws be changed in the Linux Foundation so that nobody from these large organizations have voting rights. Furthermore all of the people in charge should also be required to show up using linux machines. If they want to have windows or apple they could get somebody within their companies to install it as a virtual host. So that they log in with linux and then spin up a virtual host to their proprietary OS. No excuses. Putting RMS in charge of the Linux Foundation would also be a huge positive step.

I'm a RHEL sysadmin of many years who has recently converted my gaming desktop computer to Fedora, in large part due to watching your videos. I am helping several of my friends do the same. I would very much like to see more in-depth videos on WINE and troubleshooting difficult Windows game installations. Games like Civilization VI and Lord of the Rings Online have been problematic. Thanks for the encouragement and knowledge to convert to the Linux desktop! Your videos are making a difference for myself and my friends.

So they are not tech savy enough to know how to pass a friggin presentation in Libreoffice? I actually feel insulted when they try to tell me to use an OS they don't even bother faking they use it.
Also, mate Bill Gates was quite a bad example. He used to code, and he was quite good at it. Different is that he doesn't have to do it and is not involved with software developing anymore. It wasn't like that in the 80s
The Linux Foundation are insulting leeches into my eyes.
