Killshot: MSI s Shady Review Practices & Ethics

Killshot: MSI s Shady Review Practices & Ethics

video description

Rating: 4.5; Vote: 2
This video is simple: We re going through a few years of ethical concerns we have felt pertaining to MSI s handling of reviewers and the reviews process. MSI was given an opportunity to speak with us prior to publication. Our goal is that MSI, and the rest of the industry, can learn to behave more appropriately when working with media. Namely, that d mean no more asking for changes to content or titles. As a bonus, there's lots of talk about our history of getting blacklisted (and un-blacklisted).

Maybe the bigger tech reviews should setup some closed forum. New or smaller reviewers can than reach out (per email) to this closed forum and get some advice how to proceed.
Didn't had one of the reviewers (I believe Bitwit) lost it's ad revenue because The Verge put up some copyright claim? Well none of the bigger reviewers are lawyers (at least not for their dayjob), they do have a lot of experience and in most cases help such as reviewer. If that doesn't help, one of the bigger reviewers can do public with the tactics employed and in that way help out a smaller reviewer like Steve did in this video..
If companies know big reviewers come to the rescue to smaller reviewers when they are strong armed, maybe those bullying tactics will stop. Of course it is possible that you won't get any review samples for quite some time. The good reviewers accept that.
I am not a reviewer, but I do have my own business where we build ERP systems for specialized call centers (customer service only, no telemarketing - we hate that).
One of my policies is to be always honest. I do not sugarcoat anything. Some clients do not like that, others (most of them actually) do appreciate the feedback. If a client changes some configuration and brakes (a part of) the system, we will tell the client that. We will also fix the issue, but they have to pay a higher fee in order to have it fixed now - I have to tell another client I have to delay his project and basically the client with a production issue is cutting in front of the line). So instead of charging out regular consultancy fee of 135 dollar/hr, we now charge 500 and 4 hours need to be paid upfront. Once we receive ((bank) confirmation) of payment we start right away.. If you send an email requesting some help, we charge only 60/hr dollars, if you call, the client is charged 25 per minute of the phone call and 90/hr support fee. If you call we have to drop anything and help you right now instead of in a few hours..

There is a variable to these issues that is never discussed, capitalism. Bad reviews go out, the product dies. It may not be profitable to fix or redesign. The company dies. People go unemployed.
But in communism, the company serves the people's needs. If there is a fault in the product, it is resolved. We are not talking about money anymore, but resources, of which there are many. Unfortunately though, due to the nature of communism, the lack of free markets, PC building won't be a thing with such variety. But it's a small price to pay for world peace, good standard of living and an anxiety-free life.
And no, millions of people didn't die because of communism. The deaths are anti-communist propaganda, First, the deaths are exaggerated, and second, the deaths are not attributable to communism. The Holodomor is a lie. The area had famines every few years since the 1800s. Collectivization actually ended famines. Also the famine affected eastern Ukraine, which is philo-Russian, and not western Ukraine, which is anti-Russian.

All through this article, I kept thinking about GN's experience with the Lian Li Lancool 2 case: Steve made a few criticisms in his review and instead of going down the MSI route of denial and threats, Lian Li said OK, fair comment , went off and made improvement, then re-submitted the case for review; a perfect example of the industry working with their customers. Now GN have given the case an excellent review and I will be buying one for my next build in a couple of months time.

I'll tell u guys my story just for fun !
in 2016 i traveled to canada, i'm brazilian and at the time the gamming notebook market was not big around here...
in canada i bought an MSI GL62-6QD with 1 year global warranty...
in 11 months and 23 days the device had defective video memory.
I contacted MSI Brasil and the answer they gave me was:
Brazil is not part of the GLOBAL warranty coverage that MSI offers!!!
MSI never again ...

It's about time someone called out MSI I will never purchase a MSI product ever again I have had lots of problems with there products and there customer service team is horrible. I will only use evga gigabyte and nzxt products as there customer service is awesome they don't muck you around and if the product is defective or faulty there go the distance to put it right

Man, sucks to be a MSI owner now. Just bought their laptop last month on a huge brand sale, probably another ploy from their PR department to save their market from this impending doom.
Not to mention the fact that you know MSI won't do shit if you get defective products, and the shame of owning a product from morally garbage sh t company.

Few years back, I had similar experience with Logitech. I tested 11 of their products, did review's and video's of it. The story went with, they can't pay me atm, but out of those 11 products, I'll get one or two. After review's went up on our site, I ended up with getting nothing and that's the last time I reviewed any Logitech product.

My takeaway from this video is that corporate culture is toxic. It's a hierarchy thing that starts all the way up at Taiwan HQ. The press teams fear HQ and are willing to manipulate reviewers so that their backsides aren't on the line. They can't piss HQ off and relay negative feedback, even if it's constructive and justified.

Never again buying anything from MSI, despite i loved some of their hardware which got great reviews as well... but overall i can't support that kind of misbehaviour in any way anymore. Going to look for alternatives whenever the name MSI gets involved, at least until something changes about their review politics.

In just about any industry, when working with a company, knowing the right people is critical. Getting past the account managers, PR people and what not is the challenge. Eventually you get there though. The best companies will take honest feedback and if they hear the same thing enough, they will try to incorporate it.
