Intel Arc B570 'Battlemage' GPU Review & Benchmarks, Low-End CPU Tests, & Efficiency

Sponsor: Antec C8 with fans on Newegg https://howl.me/cmXtq5tnNJ7 - and without fans on Newegg https://howl.me/cmXtsXoSlzL The Intel Arc B570 Battlemage graphics card is in for review today. Our benchmarks of the B570 GPU include testing on low-end CPUs, like the i5-12400 and R5 5600X, and on an unbound AMD 9800X3D Ryzen CPU. Benchmarking looks at gaming performance and driver overhead of the top video cards in 2025 -- for now -- as we prepare for the NVIDIA RTX 50 series launch. NVIDIA's RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, and 5070 are around the corner. In theory, AMD's RX 9070 series also loom. Until then, we have Intel's Arc B570 video card to test, bringing in a card in the $220 to $230 price point to freshen up the low-end. Our benchmarking considers gaming performance, efficiency and power consumption, and scaling across multiple CPUs for our standardized test suite. So this review is a bit disappointing from GN. You know there is an issue with CPU overhead, documented clearly by multiple outlets. You clearly demonstrate it yourself with BG3, focusing on that big difference between Intel performance drop vs. others, even after you've tried to justify crafting your testing in a way that you would not be able to demonstrate it. Then you simply say that you couldn't produce such effects. How did you end up here
I can understand not wanting to spend time testing the CPU overhead, just say that you're not spending time on it, say other outlets do a great job covering it, and move on. Instead you chose to claim you tested it, and that you couldn't find an issue, even though you did.
The logical flow of events for how to test this reasonably would've been something like this:
- Who would be interested in buying a $220 GPU with a reasonable amount of GPU power for that price Likely someone who wants to upgrade on a budget.
- What kind of GPU would someone like that be upgrading from Probably something in e.g. the 1060 -class.
- What kind of CPU would they have paired with that class of a GPU Probably a fairly weak one, from the same release year, something like a Ryzen 2600.
- What kind of settings would someone doing a pairing like this likely be playing on 1080p, definitely not ultra, more like high/medium.
So, if you want to actually do that testing any justice, you would get an actually limited CPU, not one of your recommended gaming CPUs from a couple of years ago, and then test it in a more realistic complete package. Just running the testing on Ryzen 2600 1080p high would probably give you a much clearer example of limits than an effectively slightly OC'd 5600X, on 1080p ultra. And hey I get it, you don't have to do that testing, not everyone has to. Then just say you didn't and point to e.g. HUB who did.

With Gamers Nexus having tested 7 games & Hardware Unboxed having tested 50 games (with a 5600/X), I'm strongly leaning towards Hardware Unboxed's findings in terms of consumer value.
Even Hardware Unboxed's initial 12 game review, which saw the B580 8.4% faster than the RTX 4060 (using a 9800X3D), found it to be 1% slower (in 50 games) with a R5 5600.... That's a pretty massive swing...Meaningful, even before you get into the troubling FPS lows everyone has found. As a consumer, this information is useful to me.
Hardware Unboxed's 13 game review video today using real scenarios consumers would use today, namely testing both Native & 1440p/Quality upscaling & 9800X3D Vs R5 5600, netted similar results. At frame-rates that matter...
No one's buying a $650 9800X3D to use with a $250 B580 at the end of the day. Nor would they be willing to wait for a 9800X3D class CPU to become available at a price point that makes sense to pair with a B580. This is the most realistic consumer scenario we have. Why would they, if they could just keep their 12400/5600 and get a $550 RTX 5070 Which will be more than 100% more powerful in raster alone...
With the new GPU's from AMD/Nvidia releasing soon, none of this really matters anyway. Intel isn't competing with two year old graphics cards. I'm happy they are making progress but dissapointed that they are only competing with themselves in that regard....

God I love my 3070
I can play anything at near max ultra 1440p, and SUPER high refresh rate 1080p.
got it for the same price as the B580. B580 is a terrible card, and the B570.
Its performance is VERY inconsistent, and the 1% lows make it run like a card that's OUT of Vram.
Ironic, concidering it's a smoother experience overall on the 3070.
Only game I ever had issues with was hogwarts. But I fixed that easily by lowering 2 things.
And the FPS was still higher than the B580. That junk was skipping around everywehere it wasa a terrible experience.
And the 3070 is WAY more powerful than the B580 even. more powerful often than the 4060 ti!!
Love this thing.
Got it undervolted with memory overclock. So I've gained performance and it only maxs around 180wats
most games 130-160.

I am more and more certain that in order to prevent scalping we need personal ID purchases, that way when a person buys one or several products then the store knows that. And lets say the practice will be that you cannot order more than x amount of a product (depending on the product) within a certain time frame (unless you chose an option as a business, but then you would have to send in legitimate proof it exist in order to order many units), and that timeframe would be long enough for scalping to become obsolete, idk something like that. Yes scalping has reduced, but that has nothing to do with scalping becoming less effective itself, its simply that the producers have outpriced the market. If people cant afford buying msrp, then they sure wont be able to buy scalping prices.

I'd really like to see you do a follow-up piece on the CPU overhead. From what I can tell, your test suite is specifically designed to maximally stress the GPU while minimising CPU load. Ordinarily I agree with this approach, but it leaves you uniquely poorly equipped to identify this issue. While you acknowledge these shortcomings in this review, I've still seen people use your data to claim that the overhead issue isn't real; which wasn't your evaluation of the situation. I'm predicting that if you put it through your CPU test suite, as you suggest in the end of the video, then we'd see a dramiatic drop in performance. That should give a worst case scenario and make it clear that it's not as clear cut as you just need x or y CPU or better.

Linus just went off on a scripted rant defaming your character.
He had no factual grounds to stand on with what you did wrong.
Only you are acting immorally.
You had actual facts and did not question the morality of Linus.
You let the evidence speak for itself.
I would highly suggest using those lawyers you have guest appearances with and formally issuing a cease and desist for defamation.
He is clearly vulcanizing his fan base against you, which is HORRENDOUS behavior from a much larger entity in the field.
If he claimed to value moral consent to information, he would not be broadcasting these statements to his audience.
It is vindictive, it is damaging and it is liable.

Repost: Steve, your constant begging for money and repeated bashing of Linus (Linus Media Group) makes me sick. From your bashing of the Trust Me Bro verbal warranty until the written one was created and published, to your latest garbage take on their position on Honey. You just seem focused on the wrong things and come off as jealous of your peers (or betters) and have become completely unwatchable.
I'll trust an unwritten Trust Me Bro warranty from LMG over anything you have said or reported on.
Hopefully you will learn that being needy and jealous is a horrid look for you and a sad way to live your life. We're unsubscribing.

I went from a 970 to a 1080ti and have not switched since. I want to pay a reasonable price for an equivalent upgrade. According to userbenchmark I got a 152% increase in performance. To get the same or better right now I would need to upgrade to a 4090 at an increase of 199%, the 4080 super only being a 142% increase. I'm really hoping the 5070 or 5070ti will be my next card. I know user benchmark isn't the best but this is how I'm going to make my decision.

You called out Linus, despite what everyone else says, I don't think was wrong. But what was wrong was misrepresenting his words. Also pretending that you releasing this video has the same risk that Linus faced 2 years ago. It felt disingenuous. Everyone knows what honey is now, the only risk you have is from Linus cultists attacking you, but you have cultists of your own to defend you so no risk at all.

I think you still need to acknowledge the use-case and intended audience though: For someone interested in esports and the highest FPS ceiling and/or lower settings, Intel cards are terrible.
For casual gamers who plays recent games that can load up the entire GPU, and/or uses 1440p resolution, these cards will be fine as long as your CPU is not much slower than a 5600X.

Sorry, might have missed the info in the video: do Battlemage cards allow for 10-bit (or more) video output under OpenGL (for video color grading, photography work etc.)
As far as I recall, previous generation only allowed 10-bit or 12-bit output with DirectX.
With consumer GPUs, I think only Nvidia cards offer this feature.

Did you guys ever research the other country price You still pretend only US live in this world. In here, price is 320EU. If you do a content somthing, do it properly. Look other country price and give tht too. At least give the price difference in the EU and US so people can see that world prices are not focused on the US.

What you've said about LMG and the honey scandal needs to be rectified, I will no longer be enjoying your content/supporting you as how can I trust you won't make such a huge mistake and unfari mistake against another outlet Such a shame.
Appologise and make this right to gain back mine and many other supporters trust.

Imagine trying to take a moral high ground while in the same breath spitting out the most egregious hypocrisy. And since you clearly don’t posses journalistic ethics just go back to reading your boring sheets about random stats in a monotone voice without a single pause for half an hour.

Linus brought me here! Hope you guys work out the drama. Think there’s space in the community for both of you. I don’t think targeting other creators that are more successful is a good look. Especially if it’s not done well. Stick to reviews and tech, no one wants the drama.

GN Errors and Corrections Policy is a a joke. When GN called out LTT for their practices, but can get away with a simple disclaimer on their video to visit their website for corrections, talk about hypocrisy and not following the same standard you push on other creators.

PLEASE Steve - No one wants to see you guys have a Drake / Kendrick diss match - I got a bad feeling you’re going to bite back at him and if you do, you’re going to damage your cred Just move on mate - cheers from Kiwi land (close to Kangaroo land )

Thank god in 2025 we finally can see gpu options around $200 bucks, I was so disappointed with pc gaming lately. 3 children means that with NVIDIA pricing I would need to spend money that could buy you a good used car to refresh our PCs... Absurd
reply

Clearly not a well built testing suite of games on GN's part if you compare it with the data the HW Unboxed provides. Of course you don't see anything if you are not testing the games that are impacted by this. Jeez, I'm getting LTT vibes here.
reply

Anyone coming from LTT didn’t even listen to what Linus said at the end of his msg at the start of WanShow.
He doesn’t want you all talking crap, if you’re going to hold someone accountable wait until they respond at least.
