hi, i have a nice question..it's not super related to this video but it's the latest so u might address it...
w DLLS and FSR what's the difference in power consumption... imagine i have a 4k monitor... would it be better to run native 4k or upscale and is it different if it's a 2k monitor instead
is there any instance where native is better or is it always better to use upscaling technology some old card might run just fine up to 2k so i was wondering what's the best energy solution to have performance now that we have basically those technologies in many games...
is there a difference between nvidia and amd
i just want to know how much i should use my gpu once i buy a new one...if it's worth getting a more powerfull one that will consume less spending less energy for the upscaling tech or if i can just go for the budget solution and upscale anyway w energy consumption results that are identical...
aside from specific gpu models...
ik the question is kinda generic but since u have a lots of cards or this community is full of enthusiast maybe i can find an usefull answer

Thanks for this somewhat odd video it was both interesting and enjoyable :)
Regarding the ridiculousness of the duck and cover (and I don't know if this was the case, but) it could be argued that it did two things.
One of them was attempting to give the impression that we have the situation under control and there is no reason to panic....., a goal that You could have Your reservations about depending on how You think such things should be handled.
The second reason could have been to possibly help people who were NOT within the direct strikezone, i.e. people who saw the flash at a distance. Then the duck and cover strategy would teach them to get away from windows, since if they stood there or even worse called other people over, then when the shockwave hit they would quite certainly be killed by the glass and shrapnel. How ever if they had hid under a desk they just MIGHT survive, and then depending on how far away You were from ground zero they might live another day.... Just a thought
Best regards.

Wendell, figure out how to virtualize that old vital DOS machine for that dude. I have a couple of times put together virtualbox solutions using serial passthrough to make essentially machine agnostic as long as you have serial solutions for those exact types of machines - plasma cutters and one punch that was running on this machine the CRT had blown out in so they just remembered what to push
It's absolute worth doing and it's a valuable solution others will end up coming to you for and besides some trial and error configuring serial it's not difficult, at all.

3:44 - bottom left looks like a Fractal Design Arc Midi 2; I know this because I've had one stored for over ten years and just last week merged my Midi 1 with the 2.0 to gain that fan controller and usb3 front panels.
I know this case is kinda retro by this point, but not this deep in the basement retro!
Either way, for sure one of the cases from the beginning days of Fractal, that put em' on the map; I still love mine, the build quality is on-par with everything now, just has 5 inch bays, actual filters, but no basement to hide your terrible runs in.

So with the L40/SX that is not what the A/M switch does. It is an economy mode switch to control processor speed. If its set to Auto, the computer automatically sets the speed depending on the usage to optimize the battery life. If set to Manual, you can set up what you want the processor to run at in the features menu after running the REFDISK. Wendell is right, You CAN invert the B/W screen but this is done in the setup menu after running the REFDISK though. Source: I have a complete and working L40/SX the included literature.

Wendell has all of the devices I’ve ever owned or worked on and that’s somewhat awesome and somewhat horrifying. Haha.
That CoCo is one generation _newer_ than my first personally owned computer
I sometimes wish I had kept all that stuff but after seeing this, I’m kinda glad I didn’t. The amount of space needed whew. I don’t have it.
Demotivatator posters are still great and still as accurate as when they were created and ThinkGeek was still open to sell them.

Well, I still have both a C64 and C128 in storage (and floppy drives, sadly I sold the HDD we used for a bulletin board...on a dedicated phone line)....I guess I don't feel bad anymore. They good.
My hoarding is less bad, mostly because I've had access to much less cool shit. But it's still a bit over the top. I have cables and such from the 80's, 90's, and early 2K's. Boards, chips, blah, blah, blah.
I have ZERO beige cases....which actually bothers me.

Watching this after a stressful work at my IT job - and this brings pure joy to me. All those fantastic retro devices, interesting stories and absolute chill vibes - and Wendell just being like, look! look! XD Definitively one of my top favorite videos in this whole year, this was mad fun and enjoyable. The pure joy of exploration is just epic -
Thanks Steve - and Wendell! .

No sarcasm here, if you can get to everything, you know what it is or have a comprehension of what it is or have a comprehension of what the pile might entail.. and you can work and you can maintain a reasonable atmosphere as far as like not having toxic materials etc and proper ventilation.. it's not hoarding it's warehousing and I think he makes a case for it pretty effectively.

50:20 regarding the duck and cover, IIRC Kyle Hill looked into that and it turns out if you're far enough from a nuclear explosion that you don't get instantly melted, but not far enough to be completely safe, the greatest threat is the pressure wave, and all the trash that it will pick up and throw at you at high speed. So ducking and covering can actually be helpful.

The collab of dreams... again! Pretty fun stuff, and it's such an island of respite amidst usually depressing and toxic news/stuff.
Honestly, just walking around and looking at tech stuff from the ages is so cool. But then you get the stuff like Wendell's take on Star Trek and it's just precious.
Cheers everyone and do keep at it, I love it :)

That is somehow museum meets mad scientist. The only thing missing is somebody jumping about shouting It's alive.
Its a great tour, though it also makes me sad to see how much tech, and knowledge, just keeps disappearing - people are starting to lose sight of where this all started, and their connection with it.

31:19 L1KVM mk2 I love my kvm but I would probably upgrade in a heartbeat if Wendel found some significant upgrade to add to it. Also that remote switcher is going to be amazing. I can finally ditch my HID compliant board and no have 2 KBs on my desk with one just for switching the KVM (and interacting with BIOS)

Excellent video, Wendell has been one of my favorite super nerds for a long time and always great to hang out with in person the few times I have met him. I loved seeing all the random tech projects he has stashed there. I am sure the surface was barely scratched and this could an on going series for sure!

This is about how people dont give a sheer puck about the ones, who has knowledge and could run things into the right direction. I bet Wendels parent's were like: well we dont understand it but we keep him. even spoil him. And people love this unforturtunately. Instead of hail him and heal him.

Knowledge aside, Wendell seems to be a very fun and interesting guy to be around with. I was not expecting to see that much cahotic order all around this offices, but he has a purpose for all of it and knows where everything is. He has some really cool stuff in that building.

I'm currently rewatching TNG... love the approach of using the prime directive with smaller tech companies - the prime directive could and should be part of the ethical and moral constructs of every reviewer when reviewing a company product...

I recognize, and have owned, and in some cases still own, most of the 80's computers Wendell showed. I had the predecessor to the IBM IC - IBM -PC with 2 full height 5/14 inch floppy drives. No hard drive at all. 8088 cpu.

That bathroom rely brings me back to my time at MIT. Our building had so much copper above the drop ceiling it became a structural component of the building. There used to be vt terminals all over the place in the good old days.

Steve and Wendell seem like the kind of people I would be friends with. Just have a great time talking and tinkering with stuff, and also creating some of the most bonkers projects just for fun. They seem to be living the dream.
