People are overpaying for motherboards but not because manufacturers are overpricing the boards.
It's one of the most competitive markets in hardware even though you need a ton of investment to get a product. 20 years ago you had 30 different brands to chose from. For many it wasn't only dropping the motherboards, but the venture dragging the whole company down. Only some survived on the enthousiast market like EVGA, XFX, Sapphire or Zotac by dropping out quickly enough. Others like AOpen, ECS or DFI living another life out of sight in embedded markets.
Quality and feature set have made enormous strides but it's been a PTSD-ridden battle to get here and it doesn't feel like we're done. Biostar is on life support and MSI is nearing the decision to call it quits or having it make the entire company fail. MSI used to be the emperor of OEM boards but they lost their position to specialised brands in that market and they're losing their breath in the enthousiast market.

Will this AGESA reiteration effect X370 motherboards as well?
I've got a Asus Crosshair Hero VI paired up with my 3900x and it's been quite difficult when doing enthusiast level overclocking till now where I'm happy with what I set out to achieve finally!
Would the X570 Hero board maybe get me to 4.6ghz or am I kidding myself?
I'm running my 3900x 4.4ghz ALL core 24/7 and my ram at rated speed which is G.skill Trident Z 4000mhz 18 19 19 19 38 4000mhz, CAS 15 15 15 15 28 now 24/7 after multiple hours of tweaking finally!
Will it be worth doing any more bios updates after the most current one that's available from the ASUS website when this new AGESA comes out?
I'd really appreciate your feedback Steve.
Kind regards,
CTT

The amount of WD Red NAS drives that I've seen in the used market is just insane.
Everyone is trying to get rid of these drives, and for good reason; they were essentially tricked into buying them, thinking they were getting some high performance NAS-optimized drive, when in reality they were buying really cheap low performance storage, mainly suitable for use as an Archive, perhaps a drive were you store all your old DVDs or Music, and you occasionally read from them in order to watch or listen to your media.
Seagate and Toshiba definitely tricked some consumers, but Western Digital managed to screw over so many, that its no big surprise that they're getting sued for it.

I just thought I'd say, the PowKiddy switch clone has been around for probably a year now. PowKiddy is popular in cheap Chinese handhelds for emulation and has been around for years. They also have a few valid products like their GPD XD clone that sits comfortably between the original XD and the XD+, I believe it's the PowKiddy X18. The three devices I just mentioned aren't worth their price today anymore, but they were decent for the retro and emulation handheld fanatics.
The product talked about here isn't new at all however. It needs sued, but I think action would have been done by now. It's existed long before Covid19

Great vid as always :) Cutting costs to bolster the pockets of ie investors whilst sacrificing the quality of a product is that anything new? However when you have over the decades used WD products with a belief in their 'quality' then this will not do them any good cos NOW I will be looking at alternatives unless of course WD reverse the trend they've apparently adopted. As a write I archive material but read and write speeds are still critical. Hmm haven't we over the decades seen it time after time with drives failing due to poor build quality or even the control interfaces failing? It will be interesting to see what develops.

Linus Torvalds gave an interview to ZDNet I think it was, anyway he went over every part of the new build, and why he chose it. He doesn't care at all about graphics obviously, I think he just has like an RX 580, but he prioritizes thermals, VRM/power delivery, and quietness, He's using a Noctua CPU Cooler, a Be Quiet! chassis, a Samsung NVME (probably the 970 Evo or something), and I don't remember the RAM but I do remember he said it was a stopgap kit because it's non-ECC, and he wants ECC so I guess he'll be upgrading. Also, you guys have had like 3 roundups mentioning Linux lately and that's awesome.

I'm generally pretty understanding of a company's side of the story, but this SMR usage in WD Reds boggles my mind! WD Blues getting SMR is understandable (especially when WD ensured that performance is roughly similar to CMR in typical consumer use cases) but using SMR in NAS drives is absolutely bonkers! STH found that rebuilding a RAID array takes literally 10x as long when using a SMR drive. That means your data is vulnerable for 10x the time. Absolutely unacceptable.

hi tech guys, i've been saving for 5 years to purchase a laptop but somehow I feel like it's the worst time to actually purchase a device. Should I wait for the next gen intel/amd/nvidia or is the current gen good enough to invest in. I don't have a pc/laptop at the moment and I want to run some basic engineering programs on my laptop (CADs). Also i want to get into gaming (looking for a new hobby for indoor time). Suggestions?

Z390 to Z490 no new features but raised price. Well, Intel has had to lower prices to consumers since AMD slaughtered them in price/perf. Intel don't like making less money... Board- partners need their chips to make boards.. raise the price there and make a bit more money and the partners can't go pick the part up from some other supplier so they don't have much bargaining room.

All these new things releasing is awesome and all, but the nomenclature is getting tiring. I mean for Intel, how the quack am I supposed to pronounce my 10700k? And while intel is adding more numbers, AMD is adding more letters such as X and T, and don't even get me started on Nvidia having a 1660, 1660ti, and 1660s. Wonder what's in store for us in the future...
