HW News - Microsoft is Obsessed, 400W Intel 14900KS, Anti-Lag Returns, & Ryzen Vulnerabilities

Microsoft just hosted its Xbox podcast where it discussed, among other growths, growing. It also talked about growing, but also firing people en masse, but then growing some more. In 2024, Xbox intends to grow, rather than not grow. In other news, we'll be covering leaks of an alleged 14900KS at 400W, Anti-Lag making a return, and NVIDIA's AI ventures. AMD Ryzen CPU users should also be installing new BIOS revisions for security updates.

I could come across as a MS apologist, but I believe it's not about what's right but it's about what's fair. In my opinion, while it's undeniable that Xbox podcast was aplomb with corporate speaks, that's also understandable given the recent rumour as well as the target audience of that podcast. The audience of that podcast were probably made up of normies or people who only consume mass media - like they may not even have heard of The Verge, and The Verge is already considered a large outlet within the tech space. You must consider your audience when choosing your language in a public statement because the same words won't across the same way even if you are making a factual statement like the sun rises from the east (which some would take as what, you are saying 'the west' is a realm of sunset Is that what you are saying Pitchfork!!). As such, I think your commentaries are a little harsh.
10:12 MS has been preaching this idea that Xbox now represents a platform instead of merely a hardware ecosystem. You may say they may want to change the name to remove the box from their branding, but the thing is, MS's public stance is Xbox is not limited to the consoles. On mobile, there's a Xbox app for cloud gaming. On Windows, there's the Xbox app from the MS Store, so you can argue that makes PC part of the Xbox ecosystem.
And you really can't fault them for repeated utterance of the word growth, because the lack of which is the root of the recent layoff problems experienced by the industry. They overhired and it turned out that the revenue realised was less than what they had planned for, so they overcommitted their resources in a particular area. It's the same problem when you over spend on the wrong stuffs at the wrong time when playing a RPG. If there were more substantial growth in your audience then the layoffs could be mitigated to some degree. So, yes, if you are running a multi-billion business, you NEED the growth. Otherwise, you just stagnate and your investors can start thinking about putting their money elsewhere like buying oil or gold or whatever. So the question really should be, is the growth you are envisioning sustainable
And also to be fair to MS, from my perspective, a large part of their layoffs are really a consequence of a merger, notwithstanding what they or the FTC were saying. Do you really need two legal teams, or two marketing teams, or two HR teams now the merger is complete For example, you may need 60% more of those people to manage the combined company, but probably not 2x. So they got rid of that 40% balance.

Phil Spencer when asked about game preservation he didnt answer it at all really because they don't want to supoort it. And it was more like a shareholders meeting or a small but of it. They got rid of Xbox Gold and mothballed them into Gamepass to boost its numbers because it didnt GROW like they were hoping last few years
That Mrs Bond mentions retail yet disc based games are going off the high street, BestBuy just recently in the uk it slowly showing in large shops and we don't have any game shops at all anymore
Phil Do I squeeze more money from my current install base, or do i find new players to prevent that for a while. Until i come back to the same spot and then really have to squeeze money from that larger base because its stagnating again

Power numbers are often misleading.
My system with everything on stock settings and auto CPU settings in bios plus with overclocked GPU, it can draw in specific benchmarks 1000 Watt's.
But at the desktop, it will draw 100 to 150 Watt. That's 32 Watts GPU, 3 to 12 Watt's CPU, plus mainboard and separate sound card, network card, water pump all the fans etc etc.
Fixed V core and proper load line calibration in the Bios plus stock GPU settings and proper in-game settings for my monitor, and it pulls 400 Watt in some games and maximum 580 Watt's in more complex games.
So, in real life, you will never see a maximum 1KW power draw.

If Xbox and Microsoft actually cared about this problem, they would make a competitor to Steam instead of having to go to Github to download a mod for a game and then going to Microsoft Store to buy it and launch it from Xbox or what It's nuts, you would think they would understand this by now but they don't. Minecraft is already so huge and the community went out of their way to solve these problems before Microsoft bought them. Of course they have no idea what's actually going on or what to do for their updates, all of this generous work was already done for them

I wish AMD would push their CPUs to 400w with a big boost in performance! We need all of the Xs and as much D as possible. I don't care how much heat as long as my game gets more fps! AMD x3d is the only way to get ok fps in Rust but even that is 170 average when not near big bases and when near big bases it's 80 or less. That game engine is so bad you don't get an fps boost dropping all settings to low with a 3080. It is so CPU bound didn't get a fps boost when switching from a 1080ti. Intel is crap with that game and pretty much everything without x3d.

Microsoft Xbox leadership really thinks the world revolves around them, they even state al their scumbag corporate dilemmas in public. Of course, it doesn't even occur to them to make good/better products for the consumer, but rather how to squeeze more money out of them. The Xbox woman even shits on Pocket Pair (Palworld developer), stating it's thanks to gamepass they achieved this succes. Lol no Their success is thanks to Pokemon franchise being on the low right now, and their dedication to their own product to make it fun and great game to play.

Xbox cannot infinitely grow. Firing people and erasing their job doesn't help it continue to grow. That's just the part where they are people and make everyone remaining pick up the slack and increase the amount of work they do without increase in pay. This strangles and ruins companies and industries because shrinking the workforce will always diminish the amount of work that can be done and then there are not enough work hours from workers available.
So when you see someone using the word growth in every sentence, remember that they are a parasite.

MS's brazen front re: Palworld is unreal. Palworld had a significantly worse launch on the Windows Store than Steam. MS's processes bottlenecked patches that could get deployed days faster on steam, making it buggy for longer if played on Xbox, or PC Game Pass. It also had only 4 player coop, rather than upto 32 per server as on Steam. If Microsoft did eventually work with the devs to address this, MS were literally only fixing the problems caused by MS's own limitations.

Please do not review. The 14900ks. I will watch for 2 minutes and then click off to tell the algorithm the video is not worth watching.
It's like reviewing the same car 4-6 times with the rev limiter set 200 rpm each time. Just tell the ppl it is 3.33% faster... probably.
I don't want to keep seeing videos of the same chip over and over. If the iops don't change and almost everything else is the same then I don't even want to see more than a 2 min news spot about it

13:42 probably the biggest lie that's ever been told in gaming since it just works. Funny hearing this right after watching the steak and eggs podcast where it was noted that more games have been published on steam in the past 2 years than all years prior combined. I think what he really means is that the market is saturated enough that the biggest AAA publishers can no longer compete when they're farting out the same trash year after year. People have better options now.

is nvidia making the hacking problem worse by doing things like enabling the anti-lag feature, it triggers software anticheat. the solution here, asides from making undetectable code, is to reach out to the anticheat developers and essentially ask for a whitelist and their code to pass through. but that solution makes a backdoor for hackers, a guaranteed way for them to mask their code enough that it passes these anticheat methods.

if the 14900ks is actually 400w I'd love a video, if if only to test which coolers can even hope to keep it sorta not boiling, and to see if turning your pc into a small nuclear reactor gives more than a 1% increase in rainbow six. Its unplayable at 650 fps so I hope the new Intel heating device will let me git 660,where it's finally playable (somewhat)

I am convinced that exclusive games should be excluded from any sort of games awards. And not just toaster (Xbox/PS) exclusives, but include the likes of Epic. Want exclusivity Fine...no awards and free marketing.
Of course that would probably backfire, the very next year we'd have the Playstation Awards and Epic's Epic Games 2025. Bleh.

Your website is just awesome - I've forgotten what it's like to read something without ad's blasting at me from every angle, and to be able to click a page and it load instantly and scroll smoothly without ad after ad after ad loading in the background jamming it up and sending the fans on my laptop into overdrive.
It's just pure bliss!

I think there's a large number of people who never bought a current gen console, because these consoles were significantly more expensive than previous gen consoles, and there were so many scalpers buying them at first, that a lot of people decided to just wait it out, and then just sort of lost interest in buying one at all.

15:55 Not that i need to protect big hundred million dollar company, but for the sake of being pedantic, that IS the gamers Nexus MO after all; This screenshot is a Activision/blizzard corporate decision that Microsoft's Xbox team had nothing to do with. The merger happened 13th October 23, Diablo 4 released 5th of June 23

I don't know how to say this, so I'll just be blunt - you gained a considerable amount of weight recently. Your face is chubbier than usual. Computers aren't the only things that need to run optimally. You need to take better care about your health. Please heed this advice. I'm not trying to be an asshole. I genuinely mean well.

Gosh what an abysmal time to be a console gamer. Xbox has the games, but no reason to buy their console. Playstation has the console but no real games to bring people to them. And Nintendo is off in their own world charging 70 dollars for a game that came out in 2008 with hardware that was outclassed before it came out.

Hologram this or that my arse! The fan is as much a hologram fan as an old CRT TV is a hologram TV.
Obviously, i would much prefer if humans would suffer more from a cognitive phenomenon known as POK (Persistence Of Knowledge), but until that happens i'm back languishing in my own Dunning-Kruger den...
