AMD's 2022 roadmap is now public, and it includes the AM5 socket, Zen 4 CPUs, Zen 3+ CPUs (and Zen3D, like the Ryzen 5800X3D), and the Radeon RX 6500 XT GPU. AMD's Zen 4 and Zen 3+ release dates, the specs of the AM5 socket and RX 6500 XT (and price), and AMD's plans as it aims to battle Intel and the Alder Lake CPUs. AMD's Zen 3D CPUs are finally coming to fruition as well, acting as a stopgap until the Zen 4 CPUs launch (and, from early numbers, it may be a meaningful performance bump). The Ryzen 6000 CPUs, at least, as announced today, will be in the form of laptop and mobile components.

I'm personally really interested in seeing the laptop CPUs and the new driver features.
The laptop CPUs mostly because I'm a big fan of power efficient designs and AMD seems to have decided to play really big this time around like they did for Zen 2 laptops.
And the drivers because they've been on a great streak with those and the features they've added in the past year and a half or so I've been using an AMD GPU more or less daily on my main desktop system, and driver level FSR sounds fantastic to me, my 6900XT might enjoy running DXR titles a bit more going forward.

Regarding the 24hrs of Battery Life - what capacity battery? question, keep in mind there is a legal restriction on batteries larger that 100Wh on US carrier airline flights. You can technically carry larger than that on to the plane, but you need prior authorization from the airline to do it, so I think it's a safe assumption to make that AMD probably did that test with one of the 99.9Wh units that everyone building long battery life laptops has been settling on recently.

Reguarding the AMD Ryzen (AM5) Chips:
The Devil's Advocate in me: Judging by the LGA1712 socket, they needed all the real estate for CPU connections, so they had to move the components to the surface. And, to save space, this is what you get.
The Cynic in me: Yeah, they probably did that to stop people from removing the lid of their CPUs.
[EDIT] At least this will make counterfeiting these chips a bit harder. Well, at least for the first generation.

I have to agree on Zen3D being DOA. I fail to see any reason to upgrade to one of these with Zen4 just around the corner. I suppose it could make some sense if they make them compatible with much older boards as a relatively cheap drop-in solution - but even so, buying into a dead-end socket, with dead-end memory this late into the cycle... why? I guess they will just release the 5800X3D as a novelty and then move on.

Although completely overlooked here, one of the most interesting features on the new 6000-series mobile APU platform is the USB4 compatibility. That ends one of the longest lasting hold-outs for potential AMD mobile buyers as USB4 is TB3/4 compliant. Technically USB4 actually has more features TB3/4 but the main part is that there are no longer any exclusive ThundeBolt features at all.

Kinda disappointing tbh. You know the i'm not mad just disappointed meme? This is what this feels like. Basically what they're telling us is they have nothing interesting for at least 6 months and maybe something later but who knows.
If i was in charge i wouldn't have made this presentation. Not telling what you have is sometimes better than telling just how little you have

I am very curious about the 3D cache and what we can realistically expect from it. This would be something that requires optimization for and its rather difficult to actually do that optimization. It brings fears to mind that AMD is simply just trying to stretch out 5 year old zen but i'll trust that they know what they are doing.

Ah yes, more PC parts you won't be able to buy this year, then won't be able to afford when they do hit store shelves due to inflation. Jokes aside, I'm looking at a potential refresh late this year if that's in the cards. Will probably go all-AMD again if Zen 4 proves to be another winner.

4:31 No, AMD told Hardware Unboxed we're only getting the 8 core part for Zen3D, likely to avoid cannibalizing Zen4. Major bummer, I was planning on buying the 5950X3D to replace my 3900X. Now I gotta decide if I really want to sacrifice 4 cores to upgrade

I sure hope they are doing 6000 series exclusively for laptops like they did with 4000 series. It will be confusing as hell if we have two Zen generations in the same series again. Besides, 5000 series followed by 7000 series for desktop falls in line with their 5, 7, 9 numbering scheme.
