Do you intend to spray your fruits, or just let them grow natural & eating what survives Why are you giving up veg. Recommend some videos that has influenced you to go the way you are changing eating your eating habits. I know KETO is very good. I don't agree with eating a lot of meat raised by humans, wildlife meat is probably good. Thanks if you can, but I know you are busy & cannot answer all uf us. I was pleased to see you come to the US last Summer. I love you Canadians! I do hope our changes don't keep you away! Sincerely, Judie PS. what is Calis age now You should reconsider getting her a puppy, she would enjoy a puppy very much. Cali is the most contented, happy dog on the internet, Canadian Crusoe & Daphne are next & then the Dutch LouLou, CaoCao & ChuiChui are next. great dogs to watch. Crusoe is a huge Star due to his Dads talent & promotions!

We no longer eat veg or grains, either, b/c of the eanti-nutrients. However, the decision was made when we went on an 'elimination diet' to determine wht was causing the gastrointestinal problems. Gone: reflux, colon issues, brain fog, joint pain, lower back pain. It's amazing what problems those vegetables were causing us. I don't eat fruit, b/c the sugar content sets off loads of bad things.
Not sure why it's so controversial to eat this way. If veg (and fruit) doesn't bother a person, go ahead and eat it. But if it DOES bother a person, why is it any one's business that you cut it from your diet
Anyway, beautiful perennial garden. Good work.

What a beautiful time of year, I am also planting crops, raising a new flock of chickens, and tending to my house and yard. I was born in the 80's and basically grew up in the 90's, I always thought we were poor or behind the times because we raised our own chickens, grew our own vegetables, and had a couple steers each year. Now as an adult, I see the values my father was teaching me. I miss him every day and wish I could thank him for all the knowledge he shared with me. What I thought was a chore, was a life lesson that can never be replaced!

I completely agree with you in regards of permanently eating meat, dairy, eggs and fruit. I’ve been following Paul Saladino and just got hid carnivore code cookbook. I have chickens and ducks and raise lambs for meat with local cattle ranches for local amazing quality beef. living in zone 8a mountain area of southern Arizona
Also just planted several apple, peach and pear trees. I may use my small vegetable garden for a berry orchard.
Thank you for sharing this. Gives me hope for my own self reliant living

depending on how dense the stone is. if it's bedrock solid then it wont be useful if it's chunky bits and pieces then it should. An Ice auger with a stone bit on it can be used to slap some holes down deep into the beds say every 3 feet or so. fill with sawdust ashes and basic small debris to rot and top with a shovel or two of top dirt. like fertilizer plugs but this is composting plugs. change where you put them each year and you can work a depth of the auger of goodness into the soil

So inspiring, I have not planned my gardening as well as you have. I can say, you have put me back on track and I'm grateful. Have had trouble recovering from a cholesterol medication, lost one year basically with leg weakness. I am a fighter and will push on. Enjoy the tranquility when out in the garden, very therapeutic. Thank you again for lighting my fire again. Sometimes you need a little push.

Most fruit and berries produce Fructose, a type of sugar. Fructose must be converted to simple sugar, by the liver, whereas sucrose (simple sugar enters the blood stream directly and needs no conversion by the liver. consuming too much fructose is very hard on the liver. Hence, consuming a lot of fruit and berries is hard on the liver. Do some research.

I do not know if I'm the only person but when you were doing the talking during the last section I could not hear a word, everything else was good. Maybe if I went and adjusted the volume I would have heard what was said but when the other sound came back it would be loud. Just letting you know in case something can be done for later.

Turning a vegetable garden into a perennial fruit orchard is more than a change in cropsit’s a return to harmony with the land. Each tree planted is a step toward a future rooted in patience, care, and the quiet abundance of nature. A peaceful transformation that reflects deep respect for life itself.

While I love the food forest you are working on, I don't agree with your cutting out of vegetables and such a heavy diet of animal products.
But you do you. I'll do what I think is best. I've been vegetarian (health reasons) for 25 years now. All the best!
Love to Cali!

A thought on staking trees, use shorter stakes at 45 degrees against the prevailing wind. This does the job of preventing the young root ball from moving while the tree settles and allows the roots to do their job of stabilising the tree and not relying on the stake.

What a garden. not only good for myriad critters, but beautiful. I hope you all take some time to sit out there and enjoy it. Good to see Cali trot after her toy. And if she can't saw a log or build a chicken coop, she can dig right alongside you.

Gosh what an inspiration. I’ve done away with the vegetable garden as well. I do need to plant more fruit trees and vines. I only have pears and apples now. The rest of the fruit trees died off. I’m very interested in the Honey Berry plant.

I am guessing you are scaling down the fresh Vegtables, Fruit trees will be easier to manage in the long run. Myself My backyard garden got expanded. going with more of what we love. Thanks for sharing. hope you had a great Victoria Day Weekend.

Still loving that loon call! Your garden looks wonderful. I only raise nutrient dense vegetables. The exception is tomatoes! The brassicas are the richest in nutrients and I can grow them through the winter out here in the Sonoran desert of Az!

Dude! I would die without vegetables. I could easily go without meat for quite a long time. If I don't get vegetables regularly, I feel horrible. My wife, however, could easily never eat a vegetable. And, I will eat almost any fruit.
reply

Are you giving up on eating vegetables It seems very shortsighted to not east as many brightly colored ones as you can, less calories and more nutrition. Or maybe you are just making more of a food forest in your beds

How satisfying it is to plant something and nurture it. Each year is a new opportunity to start again. Much work but so rewarding. I hope for many more springs and summers to grow things. Best to you Shawn and family.
reply

The orchard looks amazing shawn. your hard work is really going to help with the food production for your family as well as the surrounding animals as long as you can keep the deer and moose out from eating the fruit trees.
