Log cabin living, camping, hiking, snowshoeing, food growing, foraging, archery, wildlife viewing, filming, fishing, hunting and cooking wild foods from January to August this year in the wilderness. You know? I figured out why I love all of this. It's all so logical and peaceful. I live down in Fort Myers and I miss my cabin up at Houghton Lake Michigan so much. You bring me back to the woods where I love to be. It's not logical down here. It is a retirement area, and it seems like I am living in Grey Gardens City. People are rushing to relax, and they are all really bad drivers because they are from everywhere across the US and used to different driving regulations. Anyway, where you are is so very logical. Thank you so much for filling my soul with peace.

It has been more than nine months, if you are considering the two previous challenges that you made. I am a vegetarian so hunting is not for me. I am a gardener and a French baker, I make croissants, if you have butter. I love to preserve fruits and vegetables, making cheese and yogurts. You would have a cow and more. During WWII, in Normandy, we survived for five plus years on being self-sufficient under dangerous circumstances. We had to hide our reserves or the Germans would requisition them. We smoked the meat, the little bit that we could hide, bahe our bread. Everything had to be calculated, including our Cal ados and butter and cheese. We hide even our straw, hay and fire wood. We had no soap, so to keep clean, we use ashes and grass. To wash out hair was the most difficult, we kept what we called. : black soap. The harder part was our growing process. Our shoes's sizes did not last very long. We shared them among us and resolved them with fresh leather. Nothing was wasted, we recycled as much as possible. We took old wool sweater, completely stripped them. Stitches one at the time, wash the wool once it was dismantled, dryed it and reknitted into a new sweater or socks and gloves. Winters were hard, but the older generation was teaching us how to survived during dangerous times. Most of us survived and prepared for better generations without violence.

I see how time has passed as I watch sweet Calie grow older. Truly a best friend through it all and by your side no matter. A wonderful life for you two together.
Always smile when you never forget the loons in pics or in song. Remembering
years back when I shared my loon tidbit with you and you most always never forgot to share that heartfelt smile I have from times gone by.
Thanks as always for sharing. A joy filled Christmas to you and your family and God's blessings in the New Year.

Hey Shawn, great compilation video. BTW, I'm in Australia and I've been making my own beef and kangaroo jery for several years using a fairly traditional marinade, though I started adding lime juice into the marinade and also started adding italian dried herbs onto the meat before I start the drying - it makes for a great different flavour. I believe it would lend itself to venison really well and give you a change from the standard jerky. Keep up the good work, love to Cali.

Good to see you again in great shape. Your hunting skills are outstanding and very stealth in your approach. The bear catch with the bow, very impressive. Your venison rendering reminds me of earlier times where game was plentiful. I trust that this winter that you are adequately provisioned. Warmest regards, Shawn, Terry from Calgary.

cooking fish out side smart. and the marmets sure are interested in the scraps making they are so excited. If you catch a mess of fish just add their nutrients to the bio char. it is a natural time released nutrient pack for the garden. If the marmets dont eat it all! LOL

I find it rather facinating how a dog can lift our spirits just by being by our side. Cali's personality comes right through the computer screen and gives us all a sense of joy. May she live a very long healthy life for all the smiles shes brought to our hearts

To have a home where nature are the only sounds you hear must be amazing. Your home looks great. Thank you for sharing your experiences building, setting up the garden, and the down times with your dog and showing the beauty nature has to offer.
