Before summer ends, I am focused on finishing the interior of my off grid log cabin, including grouting the red brick floor in the breezeway, oiling and waxing the rough pine floors, building the bathroom complete with composting toilet and claw foot bath tub and preparing for a busy fall of hunting and fishing.

What are you doing, man? This is - finishing and material quality wise, easily 1M USD worth log house. I don't care what realtors would say, but considering that this will last, that there is still a plenty of room for random upgrades to play with if you want, not to mention beauty of the location where it is. What worries me is that you seem like a person that will never be able to say - I am done working, you are absolutely one compulsive worker, you'd probably rather abandon the whole project instead of taking a year or two just for pure relaxation and entertainment. This will never be done in your eyes, right, perfectionist.

Shawn,
I recommend putting a handrail next to the tub.
You might not need it now, but TRUST ME, you WILL need it eventually!
And you never know what will happen. If you get bitten by a raccoon or step on a nail or hurt your back again, a good hot bath is just the thing you need!
But if you can't get your sorry ass out of the tub, what good is it!
Don't wait until it happens to install it. Do it NOW!
Mike.

Well Shawn let me tell you first your cabin is awesome beautiful!
Putting ciment like that on top of your bricks for the cement to drip between the cracks of the bricks could be a good idea, but by ecoeriance in my bathroom it was fine like that with a thin coated cement and several years around 15 it is cracking up and I find bits here and there all the time.
it did not stay put at all just for you to know.

I agree with everyone the kitchen is awesome but I think I would have just put up a nice curtain instead of building a wall to separate the bathroom from the living area I mean it just being you and the wife come winter I think it would be easier to keep it warmer and in the summer a little bit more air flow. You could just pull the curtain for privacy when on the pot. But ofcourse this is just my opinion.

Oh it's good to see that lovely window back again. I knew you were going to reuse it but couldn't remember where. Of course that keeps me watching - to see what's next and how it will look. The bathroom is just the right size - now I'll watch to see how the tub gets finished, the way you connect things up and the sink situation/location. Always worth waiting for.

Shawn. I came across a nice eco friendly site on compost you may want to watch. perhaps give you some ideas on how to deal with your gardens compost better. and it would give you more reason to eat fish since fish bones and guts are needed for the nitrogen content in the compost. so you would just HAVE TO go fishing more often with Cali. ohhh the HARDSHIP LOL

Hello there my friend it's been awhile. I hope the family is doing well the dog in your project. My friend have a quick question. I'm going to my landing January and planning to cut down the logs.
For the proper aging would you leave the park or would you remove the bark?
And if you leave it would that be a problem. To shave off later on?

I m glad you found the V-8 Tundra, but just 2 days before you said Folks, I keeping my ForeRunner, it will tow just fine.
So, there s that.
I found another V8 Tundra in Florida. It could have been a deal where you Craigslist your Forerunner and BANK some cash!
That would have been a good deal for you also.

Shawn the cabin is coming along beautiful, your right, don't look t the big picture just take one day at time and look what you can make. You have inspired me to get outside and make myself a work place to do timber work. Just love what you have made for your family to enjoy for years to come. Thankyou for sharing.

Sometimes it hurts to watch, please take your cordless saw and cut a couple things, you use it I'm sure but sometimes it just seems to obvious how proper it would be to do, I understand the authenticity aspect but C'mon man. I've been watching for years in recovery and love your videos. Friendly critic

Hi Shawn, it never ceases to amaze me the awesome work you do and I always look forward to your videos, it's been a few years I've been watching now. One question though. was that a sleeping or dying raccoon I saw? Was that also a dead ferret? Did Cali get them or something else? Thanks and much respect.

That stove is identical to my grandma's stove from the 50's and 60's from MacTier ontario not too far from where Shawn is now. I have fond memories of her making gingerbread and perogogies and my granpa forking out boiling potatoes right from the pot.
This could have been hers.

I noticed from the flashing around the front columns that you have some settlement already as expected. Nailing the bathroom wall directly to the logs securely might create an issue down the road with future settlement. Slotted nail holes may prevent that. Really nice cabin! Thanks.

I haven't got a clue why I continue to watch as I could never do anything like that since I'm 72. But I sure do like your ambition. I've been watching since the first darn cabin and I must admit I like your upgrades to the second. Gardening I could probably give some tips.

I d love to be a patron but so many people are going that route I can t afford it. Same with everyone writing a book if you want to know anything you have to buy the book. It really adds up
I ve been following you since the beginning and amazed at your talent

Great place for your old wood/canvas canoe. While mainly paddling white water in Southern British Columbia, I did have a Chestnut Leader--an 18-foot long wood/canvas down river racer. Wonderfully fast hull, and it would turn as well.

OK, Shawn, that was pretty sneaky. I had to wait like 4 or 5 days to see this one and had no idea what you were doing! Me and over 900 viewers were awaiting the countdown of the video this evening! It's awesome though. Love it!
