Lifting heavy hemlock timbers is difficult so I rig up a cable winch system to help raise them into place on the small square log cabin I'm building for a workshop. Over the open fire, I cook grouse, pheasant and squirrel, slow cooked in a cast iron fire in duck fat. The handsaw I used in this video

I can watch this day and night because I like to see progress being made.
However, I wish each step of the building process was verbally explained in each step.
If you had indians attacking you every few hours I'd think I was watching a Jeremiah Johnson movie. I think that movie had very few words in it.
All jokes aside, I'd like to know what the beams measure and what size nails being used, etc, etc.
I'd dreamt about building a cabin just like it but my skill set is basic at best.

You should have notched out for the floor before raising the second tier of logs. Saddle notches instead of spikes are stronger and more authentic. A bead of caulk between each tier of logs would have been more effective then a chincking on the outside.

Having to cook for myself while working at my cabin has to be my #1 most hated thing about being alone in the bush. Almost always end up going all day with no food just out of efficiency.

Really liking the new cabin build. Noticed the pioneer at first glance of the back rack. Great machine. I've owned mine since 2018. There handy.

Just like my Golden, desperately waiting for you to throw something for him to fetch, but not patient enough to watch where you actually throw it.

He made so many juicy wood shavings I was expecting Joe Robinet to pop out of the woods and strike his fire steel on them.
