Great little spot for a camp. I am just starting to hunt deer. Will be my first season in 2018. Some tell me that deer fat is not like that from a pig or a cow. I've heard that deer fat does not have a good taste at all. What is yr opinion on that? I know this is a old video, so if you don't get around to answering. I can understand that. I've noticed that you eat pretty much all of the deer. Noticed you eating the spine in one video. Is there any advice you would give to what parts are best and what habit's to stay away from when processing a deer? Is it possible that deer from different places taste different because of having different diets, weather, habitat? Maybe you could do a video on some of this for the newer hunter. Thanks Shawn.

I am jealous. I would love to have an outdoors /self reliant guide like you to show me hunting skills. Outdoor adventures. I have had my hunting license before many years ago. Was going to get it this year but, I have nobody to hunt with. Need an apprentice hunting program - especially for women. I would love to get back to my heritage of hunting/ trapping and hide skinning that my grandfather did. For now - thank you for taking me on this adventure. Krystal

Did deer ribs this year with dry rub and wet marinade. Dry rub was best over charcoal grill. Key is to eat them hot. If they cool, the fat gives a waxy mouth feel, but as long as they are quite warm they are great. Will try a long, slow cook next time to render more fat out.
Also did the flanks as fajitas. Very good.

Will try this method with venison ribs. Thanks for the tips. A warmed mustard based bbq sauce may be good at the finish of cooking the ribs. Looking forward to how your wife's winter overnight goes. I've been getting my wife pieces of gear along the way, in hope! Ha.

Great Saturday evening viewing. That reindeer moss on the the rock makes for decent fire tinder, takes a spark from a ferro rod or open flame from a bic, especially nice if it is dry but can be used on the damp side. Not utensils, too!

Looking forward to seeing your return to that spot this winter. That's really getting back to the basics for cooking the ribs. I could practically smell them as the fat sizzled over the flames once you had them on the sticks.

Great info from a seasoned pro. Your expertise in wilderness craft is awesome! Your narration throughout all your vids is super informative and video is an education on its own.
