For more Delhi street food and other delicious food check out Old Delhi is an excellent place to search out incredible Delhi street food, and within the ancient lanes and busy walkways are numerous stalls serving amazing treats. One of those speciality items which I couldn't miss when I was visiting, was something known as kulle chaat, also known as fruit chaat from Hira Lal Chaat Wala. Chaat is the name for an Indian snack, most of the time it's savory, and it's often eaten as a light meal or just as an afternoon delight. Just a five minute walk from the Chawri Bazar metro station in Delhi, is a Delhi street food stall that will immediately attract you. At Hira Lal Chaat Wala, the potato patties sit on the middle of the griddle all day slowly sizzling while continuing to soak up the delicious flavors that everything else fried contributes to. The sight alone, and the bright colors of the stall are enough to make one stop. But written in a small sign above the store you'll find something known as kulle chaat, or fruit chaat. This speciality Delhi street food is something you should never miss, it's absolutely incredible Kulle chaat begins with whatever fruit happen to be in season. In my case I got a tomato, cucumber, mandarin orange, and a potato. All the fruits were cut in half and hollowed out so they were like fruit cups. The vendor then expertly filled this little Delhi street food cups full of a combination of sulfur salt, lime juice, masala spices, boiled chickpeas, and finally some pomegranate seeds to top things off. The amazing combination is a stunning mixture of flavors that go so well together. Standing on the side of the main Chawri Bazar road while listening to the rowdy traffic go by, I had my first sample of kulle fruit chaat. I didn't know if it would be a good idea to add the entire thing to my mouth or to take it in bites, so I added the entire thing to my mouth. It was a sensational explosion of spices and flavors that was enlivened by the sulfur salt and lime juice. It was truly a special and remarkable flavor and taste combination. Kulle fruit chaat was easily one of the most amazing Delhi street food snacks that I ate during my entire visit to the city. The tomato and the mandarin orange were particularly delicious. I think that perhaps the mixture works the best with sour or acidic fruits or vegetables. If you ever visit Delhi, take a walk down Chawri Bazar and locate Hira Lal Chaat Wala for kulle fruit chaat

although street food is street food, i gotta admit after watching lots of these videos that Indian street food is probably the most unsanitary. many clips (not just mark weins) show these Indian people handling money and touching the food right after. also some sit chopping fruits / veges close to their bare feet, while others seem to ALWAYS have to touch at least 1 ingredient with their bare hands even though they use spoons for other ingredients. In this video the guy mixes the fruit cup contents with one of his fingers that's been god knows where. Later on in the clip at around 1: 45, you can see the same guy accepting money and giving change back - I'm sure this isn't the first time. This isn't even about getting sick or not, its just downright nasty. At least in other country's street food they try to minimize direct contact with the food or separate food handling from money handling, but in India it seems the opposite.

Mark, I love all of your videos. Your unbridled enthusiasm and love of life make me smile and in a small way I am also travelling with you and eating all those wonderful foods. Mr Waleed Gameel, why on earth would you WATCH a video that is obviously about food and then demand that the owner and all others follow your religion's demands about eating. My religion has me dancing naked at midnight at the summer solstice but I certainly don't expect or demand to see you doing so with me.

Your video inspired me to try this. I haven't seen anything presented this way before and it looked amazing. I'm not sure what is typically used, but I added fresh pomegranate, mango, onions, ginger, garlic, lime juice, fish sauce, vinegar, and a garam masala with chiles. I placed the mixture in cucumber and small sweet peppers. The peppers were wonderfully flavorful and the sweet/salty/vinegar/savory mix was perfect

Wowww. The whole thing into his mouth, again? People keep complaining about hygyene. This is street food, not a fancy restaurant, people. No matter from what countries, street food is not safe. Some countries might be more hygienic than the others, but still, it's street food. That's why I always had my medication ready before I got in the street and enjoyed street food.

I am thinking the salt and lime juice help to limit the bacterial or parasites infection that may come with such a raw concoction. This and the mango kulfi ice cream had my mouth watering despite the issues with hygiene.

Wow I have never tried that or seen that before I know of all the spices and ingredients in there so I can just tell it was delicious but the added bonus of having it in a fruit and vegetable cup? I need to make that

Hey, thanks a lot Here's my strategy normally. I'll take a little bite of what I think is the best first, then eat everything else, then finally at the end come back to the best thing. What do you do?
