Trying America's Best Seafood Meal: SUBSCRIBE for more: Some people say the best food in New Orleans is hidden in the back of gas stations and convenience stores, so today our mission is to put it to the test and taste some of the highest rated gas station food in New Orleans, Louisiana! Thank you to my sister Pam and Derek for joining me, check out their coffee roasting: Here’s all the food we ate: John & Mary Food Store - This is a great place to come for Yakamein. Banks Meat Market - This place is legendary in New Orleans for their 24 hour gas station food including their 32 Inch Hot Sausage Po' Boy. Broad & Banks Seafood - Another gem of New Orleans, I tried their legendary Gumbo, Smothered Pork Chops, and Red Beans and Rice. Hanks Seafood & Supermarket - Another top recommendation, and we tried the roast beef po’ boy, another hot sausage po’ boy, and a classic fried shrimp po’ boy. But the unexpected best things about Hanks was their unbelievable fried chicken with their spicy sauce. Key's Fuel Mart - Next up for what some people say is the best fried chicken in America! By the way, they had this old lady named Ms Viola, who used to serve the separate plates. I promise you if she would a franchise her cooking that would’ve been $1 billion corporation she was doing it out of her house and no exaggeration. This lady had to be selling over 1000 plates a day. She had five workers. in her an her house it used to be so packed. it was crazy, but the food was well worth it RIP to Ms Viola. She stayed in the 11th ward on Laurel Street and she stayed on St Thomas Street at one time the whole neighborhood has been gentrified now.

Cuisine created by the Foundational Black Americans (#FBA) of New Orleans yet every establishment you visited was owned and run by people not from the culture, many being foreigners. Not one FBA run establishment. That's the sad reality throughout the US. Our culture (food, dance, music, fashion, slang, swag, etc) is the basis of American culture but we profit from it the least. A sad but true reality.

Fun fact, I used to go to John and Mary store in 2010 and 11 before I moved. I stayed 4 blocks down the street from it on Orleans and N. Dupre and I always went to keys, food store the one on Louisiana and the one in Jefferson Parish, where they went to. but the only thing about Johnny Mary’s they cut down on a portions a lot when I went recently and they charge outlandish prices for it to say the foods just sitting out all day taste very nasty nowadays.

Mark thanks again for a wonderful review of NOLA gas station and convenience stores hot food! My wife and I for past few years were trying to figure out the Broad and Banks location! A local tip from Uber driver mentioned fried chicken and Po Boys with uncertainty of the namedid not know the location. Thanks to you we solved this nagging mystery!

If you're taking the other food for someone else, why are you playing with it You expect them to eat that after you are talking over it You weren't taught that you don't talk over people's food You're sickening my stomach, and I'm not the one who's going to eat that food. Learn food ethics before you do these food videos.

Mark. Call in sick some day and let brother (in law) D hop on the mic Solo. He's got the palate and the tips and the public speaking and charisma down cold.
Cut the man in with afull fat NatGeo check.
He's a family man. your family.
He's not gonna blow it all on weed and women like I would.

I started watching Mark a few months ago, didn't know about the brother in law but I'm happy to watch them eat, him eating philly cheese steak caught my attention gas stations and hole in the walls have the best food, so people thank guys like Mark and Derek for shining a light on good eating

I was wondering if the name of the first dish was in Cantonese. Yat Kar Mein sounds Cantonese and would mean Add one or possibly add everything noodles’ which is kinda fitting. it seems like it contains everything imaginable that you could put in a single dish to make it phenomenal!

I'm always thrilled to see Derek and Pam join in the fun.
Derek and Mark have the best bro chemistry.
I had some of the best meals when I went to New Orleans, but man, I wish I would have gone to that place with the smothered pork chop and gumbo. Oh, wow! That looked so good.

Hello from the Lower Garden District! This was so fun to watch. Locals know where the best food is, out in the neighborhoods. Been thinking about sharing my life here but haven’t started yet, this inspired me. Love the enthusiasm and the focus on good locally-owned gemstones.

Yakamein (or what we called back in the day, Yakameat as a slang in the Desire Project in the Ninth Ward) was a hangover remedy in the 1970's. Folks would hang out at Stack's on Louisa St. to get a container after getting tore up on a variety of low-budget alcoholic beverages.

Broad and Banks is going to be the best gumbo you’re gonna get in New Orleans unless you get some from a reputable New Orleans family grandmothers house. I’m sorry not but no other restaurants/food stores are messing with broad and banks gumbo. And they all know it

I love watching your videos. And enjoy our local Lucky Thai lady's food weekly now. A comfort food I didn't know I needed and now my husband drinks the tea. He tried it one day and fell in love. Thank you for sharing your journeys and taking us with you.

Imagine being at the park and just seeing Mark Wiens sitting around casually devouring food on camera lol. Mark got two porkchops one for family he said, but bites into both and touches all over and then what serves them back home unsuspecting lol

He really tapped in with somebody from the city that really knows about the food. This is the only food show that really did his homework because I checked all of them out who do something in New Orleans and he is the second person to get it right
reply

A little Louisiana hot sauce in your gumbo sets it up right.
Edit: they put the hot sausage patties in there, my wife rolls it into balls and saute them a little before adding to the pot grease and all. The one that you had on your po-boy.

Except not everyone has access to this fried chicken. People go to KFC because it is widely available. If this restaurant was all over the country then would put KFC out of business. Unfortunately it isn’t the easiest to get to that scale.

Mark, Next time please try Michoud seafood. I love everything but try the crawfish, ham hocks, pigs feet, turkey neck, garlic, and boiled egg. You won't be upset. Be sure to bite and suck the heads of those sweet and spicy crawfish yea!
