My mother used to make something similar. She mixed the raw meat with left over mushed potatoes. I am a 50 s baby. Mama I know you are not Mexican, but pleas enunciate when you say TORTILLAS. Also any Mexican knows that warming up the tortillas makes them pliable, you don t need to brush them with oil, just put them on a hot skillet or comal. Or wrap them in a moist towel and microwave for a minute. The tacos will be fried after all, you don t need to add more fat. Also have a colander to stand the fried tacos instead of placing them on a flat rack. Good recipe, brought back memories.

Just went for groceries today, and between the rising prices and the meat department not always having much to choose from (I've had to get creative with stretching inexpensive bags of chicken legs lately, I appreciate simple recipes like this I like the idea of mixing in some shredded potato and carrot too, and making it with refried beans or even mashed black beans with lots of cumin y cilantro Wanna try baking them sometime as well since I can't do much fried stuff anymore.

Thanks I grew up with these tacos and I am in my late 50's. Southwestern States it is most common. The beef fat mixes with the corn tortilla and is absolutely delicious! We add shredded cheddar to tacos right after removing them from pan, while tacos are hot to melt the cheese. MMM. Yummy!

This is how my family make tacos. We aren't Latino but Native Americans from California. These are the kind of tacos I grew up with. Slather a small amount of ground beef, or Turkey meat and fry it. Yummy.

I wonder if this is where the idea of hard tacos came from. Seems like a lot of people's grandma made something like this, making due with what was available. Really cool to see history in action.

For the next few months food is going to need to stretch. I am so glad you show these recipes. The only one not stressing about money or food will be my little he will eat before us.
