You ll be the judge of whether this delicious meatless meatloaf is really, better than beef, but it s definitely cheaper, better for you nutritionally, and probably better environmentally, which are just some of the reasons I hope you give this a try soon. MeSummika: I have made some loaves that are not meat and they have kicked some real rump in great flavor. That being said I am a meat eater and a veg eater. Each has its place but when you can please a meat-eater with a loaf and no meat for a meal you know you have a winner. But I still love my meat and I don't pretend it's not meat because I love real meat and not fake nuggets pretending. That said I get this loaf and what you were doing heh.

The ingredients are literally as expensive or more so than just a pound of ground round and breadcrumb filler type meatloaf, plus it's way more involved to make, so you are using more utensils, gas/electricity, water, soap etc. The beef base addition made this really funny and all kinda pointless. I'm sure someone will appreciate this recipe, but it was completely and totally lost on me.

This actually sounds really good, but I think that every time someone tries to make a comparison to meat it makes it sound less appealing. I'm a meat eater who enjoys a well cooked vegetarian meal, but the constant need to be meat adjacent is actually a massive turn off. Let the dish stand on it's own, being what it is, instead of constantly trying to pretend it's something it isn't.

I love that you used the beef base here. I feel omnivores can miss out on a lot of great ingredients and dishes because they get pigeonholed into the vegetarian category. But they can still be good ingredients in dishes with meat, just look at mapo tofu.
And if you are a vegetarian you can easily swap the beef base for a vegetarian option.

Hehe. I'm in the kitchen watching this. Hubs and boys are standing behind me, shaking their heads and saying, DON'T even think about it, Mom! . LOL! Nice try, Chef. Gold star to you for really trying to sell it, but I'd get run out of Dodge. I think having to drown the thing in gravy - twice - was a dead giveaway. :-)

The way I see it is, either eat meat or eat vegetables. people are so obsessed with making fake meat, it's obvious that they want the real deal because that's what their biology is telling them to eat. Just eat meat, it's not inhumane. There are other animal species eating other animals, not just human beings.

I think we should be careful labeling something healthy based on a single ingredient. Whatever health benefits there are to mushrooms are more than offset by breadcrumbs, oats, ketchup, and sugar. On the other hand, it's probably delicious!

There is no substitute for meat - you either eat it or don t. Calling a classic dish like meat loaf and not using meat - is not meatloaf. Try as it may, it is still not meatloaf - so let call it what it is mushroom loaf.

Better for you ummm, the more processed a food the worse it is for you! Better environmentally LOL This is highly processed food created and manufactured in a factory. What a joke, stick to the kitchen Chef

Looks interestingly tasty. Unfortunately it'd never get finished in my kitchen as I'd never be able to resist to temptation to drop a steak or pork chop in with the browned mushrooms and have it that way.
