Do you want to keep your dumplings together and looking amazing - as well as oiling the paper you can slice a very thin disc of carrot and sit the buns on top of that.
The orange, yellow or purple carrot will act as a mini plate that the buns may get stuck to, but they are equally tasty and will keep the bun together when being removed from the steamer.
You could probably experiment with a tiny disk of lotus root or piece of onion shaped into a disk.
I learned to do this cooking dumplings.

I remember seeing that short animation at the movie theater. When she ate the bun I looked at my friend and said when you have to eat your problems away, and I hear a lot of people burst out in laughter and I didnt notice how loud I said it. I was emberassed

I actually laughed out loud when the mother ate the bun.
I get what it was trying to accomplish with the whole Mother/Son thing, but I still couldn't hold back the laughter that it was so dramatic over eating a bun!
