They could have done almost every other fairytale with a lead actress with any skin color they wanted.
I don't think there is much mentioned about Belle's skin color or that of Sleeping Beauty or the Little Red Riding Hood - although traditionally they would be white since those are tales from a region where at the time they originate from the people were predominantly white. Still, I doubt people would mind too much if Rapunzel or the princess from King Thrushbeard had a darker skin color.
But they chose the one character whose name and main characteristic is having snow-white skin. If you remove the white skin you have to at least give her something else that is as white as snow (no, teeth do not count for goodness sake.
They should just stop with the remakes and instead adapt some of the other fairytales that haven't gotten their chance yet:
- Town Musicians of Bremen - animals with basically already built-in musical numbers, each could have their own fun character, great story about achieving your dreams
- Hans in Luck - a tale about how money isn't the most important thing and that you can find happiness in small things. Give him a girlfriend and you have a great love story.
- Rumpelstiltskin - a bit more adult topic, but still has magic and a girl who can (supposedly) turn hay into gold. And comes with a prince/king too. Have him know the truth in the end and make it about forgiveness and true love, finished.
- Frau Holle - good deads and hard work get rewarded, bully gets punished
- The Brave Little Tailor - what an adventure this could be. Might work well with a genderswap, if they need a female protagonist for their fairy tales
So lots of topics which are still relevant today and those fairytales could easily be turned into great movies whether animated or live-action.

Let’s be realDisney’s movies, even when beloved, often include problematic elements that can, to some extent, be explained by the time they were made. I understand that sometimes they take the whole modernizing thing a bit too far. I’m all for inclusivity, but there are times when it feels like they use diversity as a way to distract from weak scripts or underwhelming performances. I don’t want to see a movie just because it’s inclusiveI want to see it because it’s great. That said, I absolutely support making sure the cast is as diverse as the story allows.
At the same time, Disney will always face criticism from the same group of people who threw a tantrum over the idea that mermaids could be Black. How do you even attempt to reason with people like that
That being said, I’m definitely not a fan of Disney’s live-action remakes, and I probably won’t watch this oneunless my nieces want to see it or, by some miracle, it turns out to be critically acclaimed (which I highly doubt.
P. S. If I’m being honest, I remember being pretty young in the 90s and thinking Belle was far from the prettiest Disney princess. Okay, the queen wasn’t any better, but she was creepy as hellhow did she even rank second Were there only two women in that entire kingdom: P

If Snow White fails both critically and commercially, do you think Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, and David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, might reconsider Disney's approach to live-action remakes Given that the film was produced during Sean Bailey's 15-year tenure as the head of Walt Disney Pictures, which ended last year, and considering Greenbaum's recent promotion from Searchlight Picturesacquired by Disney as part of the 20th Century Fox deal in 2019to oversee Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, do you believe that the decision made by Bergman and Greenbaum to reevaluate the number of live-action remakes in production was recent Or will it depend on the film's performance outcomes
Also, why aren't the entries ranked from #10 to #1, and why is the word Top committed from the title of the video

Even if there’s no honorable mentions listed here, I got a few:
1. hiring Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider Man 1 and 2) or should I say getting the wrong director
2. Tonal inconsistencies with the music. As much as Benj Pasek and Justin Paul tried, they so far don’t match the tone of the older songs musically
3. Lack of colors. There’s only a few exceptions so far like the Diamond mines
About the deviations, I can’t help feel that the screenplay is seeming to have a lack of a true voice. For some reason, it feel like it’s a rip off of Disney’s very own Wish and the live action Snow White movies from the early 2010s, Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror. Also why on earth would the script turn a simple story to something convoluted and complicated

I never really enjoyed these live-action remakes of our classic Disney movies, because I always felt that the changes - especially trying to modernize them - I can't help compare them to the original and I always feel that it left the remake lacking. The only one I truly enjoyed was Hook - I think because one, the movie was a completely different story based off Disney's Peter Pan rather than a remake and two, there were no recreation of talking animals. I think CGI just can't do it -- the animals always look odd to me. I think Disney really need to quit trying to create these live-action remakes because they really are not successful at doing the original classics any justice. They need to stop being lazy and focus on coming up with some new material.

Rachel Ziegler did not merely pour gasoline onto the fire - she is the gasoline. She instigated the debate on race when she tweeted that she wasn't going to bleach herself for the role and then continued to trash on the original film while promoting the now tired girl-boss trope in modern Hollywood. It's an overall shame because Snow White is a favorite of many, including my sister.
I have seen people comment that Gal Gadot is the only reason they were going to watch the film (if they actually watched it. I also suspect that there are people complaining about Gal Gadot because she's Israeli and served in the IDF (granted as a gymnastics and calisthenics instructor, something frowned upon by the increasingly blatant antisemitic Left.

yea Mulan was dog shi as well, and despite being a man and not Chinese, the cartoon is on of my favorites from a my childhood and the animation mulan one of my favorite characters. And no it was not an color blind casting call, that was nothing more then pretending that it the role was open for all, just like Little mermaid they wanted to race swap Snow White, there is not a single white actress who would have ever gotten this role, that dosent make it color blind. Not to mention there will never be a single time they would do a color blind casting call for a black role, let them announce a color blind casting call for Black Panther and see how it goes

There is definitely many signs that the Snow White live action remake will be Disney worst live action remake so far. The best live action remake that Disney did was probably Cinderella, however even with that one they made some poor choices like downgrading the animal's characters. If Disney really wants to continue with these live action remakes, then they need stop altering the stories and characters so much. If Disney continue turning these admired stories into some woke projects, then they will alienate half if not most of their audience. Not all new productions need to be some political woke statement to be relevant.

I think that between the live action fatigue and the casting choices you could have summarized everything with racism. When people use the word woke as an insult you know they don't care about its origins. Of course Walt Disney would hate this. He was a racist asshole. Those claiming it's woke because it's not about the 'original love story, please go and seek the actual story and how gruesome it really is. She is indeed a kid and the queen is forced to dance until death. All the other criticism is extremely valid and poignant.

I don't watch them because I just am tired of these remakes just because they ran out of ideas. If anything, I wouldn't mind seeing Treasure Planet remade. Anyways, the main reason I'm not going to watch it is because of Rachel's big ugly mouth. Her constant bad mouthing the old movie, calling the prince a stalker and such, to even bad mouthing Disney itself. I'm sorry for everyone that actually tried to work hard on it. But I can't support it because of her.

Honestly, I'm starting to think that Disney is Shoving so much PC Crap into their movies nowadays NOT Because they're actually people who believe in these ideals and causes, but because they've made it into the Lowest Common Denominator to bring in as much people as possible, I'm as Liberal as they come, but even I find their PC Material to be overdone and trite at the best of times, to a point where it's quickly becoming repetitive and annoying!

I'm looking forward to this train wreck finally coming to an end. So much attention has been placed on this movie and its lead. I can't wait until it bombs so hard and disappears. Same with Rachel Z. Hopefully other young actors take notes on her display of ego and are able to handle their fame and opportunities better than this. She really has written the book on how to destroy your career and project by just talking.
reply

I think it would be AMAZING if there wasn't a single person that showed up to watch this movie. Let it make NOTHING in the box office. Or. just don't release it at all. Because let's be honest with ourselves. This movie finished filming in 2022. It's 2025 and it's just now coming out We ALL know that ANY movie that has this much of a delay in release is DOOMED! Can't wait to not watch this, but enjoy the fallout of it.

They should have casted Amy Schumer as the evil queen someone who would actually be jealous of this snow White's beauty not Gal Gadot who is probably the most beautiful face ever.
The race of Rachel doesn't bother me personally with this role but her trashing the original and bashing men and romance overall and wanting to make it a feminist empowerment project is one thing after another that alienates people away from it.

A better take on any Snow White adaptation would showcase her potential as a great queen while still honoring the purity of her character, so casting someone as presumtuous as Rachel Zegler was a serious mistake, ethnicity aside. And if this is about empowering young girls, why not have her mother tell her she can be a great leader Her father can still be supportive, that's what fathers are supposed to do.

The CGI is laughably bad, which is embarrassing considering the movie’s budget; they spent between $240M to $269. 4M on the film as a whole, but they clearly didn’t put enough money towards the visual effects In contrast, Once Upon a Time had a budget of $4. 5M PER EPISODE (again, with not enough cash going to vfx, and it looks so much better by comparison to this movie!

I never cared for Snow white, which I saw as an adult and out of curiosity. the only thing that stuck with me was the fact that the queen was actually bad and mean, more so for the time it was made. Other than that, didn't care for it back then and much less now that this abomination of a remake is coming out. By the way, Snow White looks like Lord Farquaad. Are they siblings
reply

The instant that David Hand, Jr. said that his father and Walt Disney would be upset with the, woke version of Snow White, anything he has to say has no credibility in my eyes. People throw around woke like it's bad. Like it's some awful sickness in our country to seek to understand and respect people different from you and treat them how they wish to be treated.
reply

Imo Snow White - A Tale of Terror is still the best adaptation. And Sigourney Weaver as queen gives the role actual depth. She has at least an actual solid reason to dislike her stepdaughter. It's not just vanity. And Snow White has an actual character arc too. The Spanish Blancanieves from a few years ago is also worth a look.
reply

No way im seeing this. It is clear Rachel has no humility and is everything Snow White is not. To me Gal Gadot will always be Wonder Woman first. And indeed Disney remakes are just getting very sloppy. Mufasa couldn't keep up with Sonic 3 and I doubt Snow White will do the same come box office time against its competitors
