In League of Legends, every move matters. But what happens when your team is down 0-4 with money and prestige on the line? Its weird saying biggest comeback in Esports history when there are much bigger moments than this. Like TI7 where Liquid won like 6 straight straight series after going to the Losers Bracket to win the whole tournament, Cloud9 coming back from 15-11 rounds down to force OT against best in the world at that time Faze and end up winning Americas first ever Major in CSGO on home soil, almost every big fighting game moment at an EVO, every OG match at TI8, Luminosity Gaming coming back from game point twice against Liquid at MLG Colombus where they ended up winning both maps, etc. Theres so many moments in Esports that are incredible comeback stories, you cant just say a singular moment in League where FNATIC just really had to beat Vietnam and NA in BO1s who are nowhere near the best in the world to get to 2-4 to get to quarters and bow out immediately. Just call it the Biggest League of Legends Comeback and focus on rekkles\r\n

Hey I can contribute to this video topic!
I was playing Insurgency just yesterday, we quickly lost the first round and that made me want to quit because everything happened so fast we just wasn't ready. I felt like sh t but then I tought -that was just the first round maybe we can still play our way trough-. Secong f cking round my teammates died and we lost all 3 points but I was on a stalemate on B, 1 vs 5 and I quietly took 4 out, cap B and the last enemy player runned towards me but I still got it. Typing like this really easy but that was one of the most stressfull moments I ever had in weeks, my heart was in my mouth and it felt like forever to end. If you ever played Insurgency you know if you do a minor mistake you ARE dead.

Clickbait title. The Red Bull documentary on OG covers the actual greatest comeback in eSports. A team betrayed and gutted by its co-founder, forced to roster its coach, an inactive and an amateur in 3 of 5 positions. They then barely qualify into the most lucrative tournament on the planet as the lowest ranked out of 16 teams and win the whole thing, eliminating those who abandoned them on the way.

Great video man! I also would like to put in the contention for the greatest e-sports comeback: MKLeo v. Tweek at 2019 EVO. MKLeo was down in the loser-s bracket and lost the first two games, was down to one stock on the third game. then came back and swept 6 games in a row to win the whole thing! Watching it live with some of my friends, I don-t think I-ll ever forget how awesome that was
reply

Yes, great video. I love watching short documentaries like this.
Also, the Fnatic comeback for sure is the one I was happiest about, ever. I wrote them off, everyone did. No one had ever come back from a 0-3, so imagine 0-4. Then they went on to win their 1st game in such a close matter, one single wrong button press could have lost it, to then make it out with 4-4. Insane really.

I liked this video, but its very strange that it is ostensibly supposed to be about the amazing comeback, and very little of the video is about the comeback, its mostly just a generic -here's why its hard to be a pro moba player-. The actual comeback is barely broken down or analyzed at all, its about 1 minute of the video.
reply

Huh. For some reason I never really expected Polygon to put out a video on League. Neat to watch! Thanks for the analysis.
Also, as a request: do you think you could start including credits for the music you use in your videos somewhere? That ending track sounds pretty nice but I have no idea what it's from. :(

Dropping this dumbass persona for a second. Congratulations, with the brothers leaving and your obvious bias towards getting views by lying, you've earned an unsub! The greatest comeback of all time was OG in DOTA2. It was literally something out of an anime storyline. You get no hot dogs.

2017 was the first Worlds I watched, and watching those games play out in real time was INTENSE and is a big part of why I love the game so goddamn much I watch pro play every single day.
Also, as an NA fan, 9: 55 was actually physically painful, especially after the game ended lmao

this video is quite a lot. the good ole -140 some champions, so many matchups omg- chestnut, shorthair pat, the old infant rekkless footage, travis being travis, there's a lot here.
polygon lol content and no Julia? we need more Julia.

This was genuinely very interesting to learn about! This video also kind of made me understand a really enticing appeal of this type of game. I've had friends get really into stuff like League and DOTA & I never really got it before.
reply

I really clicked on this video expecting I'd get almost 13 minutes of Pat leading up to the most devastating smacktalk comeback in esports and I was ready to watch that full video. My sister took the family braincell today I guess.

-A pro [LoL] player needs an astounding level of knowledge, intuition, skill, and decision making. -
And an ability to ignore or embrace deeply toxic cultures in both the player base and the company making the game.

This was really well made. I love the focus on the psychological aspects; using the story to introduce people to League of Legends and esports in general; even sharing a meaningful life lesson. Well done.

-2018 Boston Major Map 3 Inferno
or
-Evo moment 37
or
-2016 Worlds Finals game 3 (SKT vs SSG)
To say that a random Fnatic 2017 worlds game is the greatest comeback is ridiculous.

I kept waiting for the bit to pay off. it took me a full 90 seconds before I realized it wasn't a bit and this was a genuine video about pro League of Legends. So now I'll see myself out.
reply

Great video but there are so many better examples than FNATIC's comeback at worlds 2017. Would love to see more videos like this on other esports games such as CS or R6S
reply

It was a good comeback, but that group was also utterly stacked in Fnatic's favor. I find the comeback incredible, but the first four throws were moreso, imo.

New haircut?
I see -Patrick -Patrick
-Patrick -Patrick -. new haircut?
Hi I-ve been a fan for a while I just wanted to ask, is that a new haircut?

reply

Is there any of these about Dota? There's a lot more to analyse there in interesting shifts in meta and there's been some fascinating -cheeses- in the past.
reply

Great video! I'd love to see more e-sports history related ones in the future, it's such a vast scene with great stories to tell.
reply

League isn't really my thing when it comes to esports, fighting games are way more my area, but I can't deny this is impressive.
reply

Oooh, nice Alienware m15. Glad us -superior- gamers use good gamer computers like that. ;) (But that computer is really nice)
reply

I wish you also go to Dota2. That game might be 100x cancerous than LoL but the intensity of the games are so mindbreaking.
reply

idk a thing about esports and have never had the urge to learn, but this video was exhilarating and now i wanna know about esports
reply

I kinda wish pat went more into the mechanics of the game bcz I felt kinda lost and it was difficult to get into the video
reply

Pat now looks like my cousin Nick. Glasses, shirt, hair, facial hair that-s there. but in a slightly unsettling way.
reply

This is a great breakdown. Feels weird to see the esport boys on polygon but a nice vid. I like the new hair also.
reply

so you could say it was the
best comeback ever
(i haven-t watched the video yet i just wanted to make this joke)

reply

I would argue that OG victory in Dota 2018 was a better comeback but that shit in 2017 was also really good
