Theory 4: running out of ideas
it's hard to come up with ideas for 807 pokemon, so they have to take some shortcuts.
Theory 5: fire/fighting is a good combo, but not too good.
imagine a fire/ghost starter. well, since you have a ghost pokemon, you are now immune to most of the early game pokemon, cuz they all have normal moves. (tackle, takedown, etc)
Fire/rock would give you a weakness to grass types
Fire/electric would basically make the other starters irrelevant
fire/fairy could work, since the pokemon that are weak to fairy are pretty late game (dragons)
Fire/dragon: good idea, but might be a bit too strong (dragon moves are strong as heck against early game stuff)
Fire/poison: cool idea, but that might be a bit too much for early game (use a poison move, then use moves that extend life(or potions)
Fire/ice: now thats just silly
Fire/flying: a double F-ck you to them grass starters
Fire/normal: at that point it may as well just be pure fire
Fire/dark: could work
Fire/grass or fire/water: would ruin the starter RPS thing.
fire/fighting is just ok enough to make for a good starter. it's good enough to get you through the game if you level it enough, but not so strong that it makes it the -best starter-
also, scorbunny is best starter because he is an adorable rabbit. rabbit type best type

I don't think the Chinese Zodiac theory is -universally hated. - Plenty of people like this theory. The Chinese zodiac is just kind of badass and easy to like.
1. Yes, Cyndaquil is a mouse (although you can argue that it's a porcupine, which makes sense, but its original dex entry describes it as a fire mouse)
2. Yes, Fennekin is a fox.
While a fox and mouse are definitely a stretch from a dog and a rat, it's not THAT big of a stretch. The Chinese influence is also stronger considering the Sun Wukong & Zhu Bajie inspiration.

i am OVER the fire fighting typing lets switch it up, how about a fire fairy we havent had any of them yet, how about fire steel, fire poison, fire ghost, fire bug, also yes im aware there are pokemon (besides fairy) that have had a dual type with fire but the only dual type fire starters have been flying dark fighting and psychic

3: 38 That's missing the point, though. Yep, ton of pokemon, but relatively few starters. The entire controversy is about fire starters, not all pokemon. There are what, like eight generations? If half of all fire starters are fire-fighting, and that is nearly true, then it's kinda weird.

Theres probably no reason outside of coincidence but Bruh if scorbunny becomes fire/fighting then HALF of all the fire starters will be the same duel type. Thats not reaching to see a pattern, 50% is too dang many. I just want more variety in the starter types and gimmicks -

Idk if this sounds like nickpicking, but having your starter above level 14 before Roxanne(lv 12-15) or Roark(lv 12-14) isn't too hard, still doesn't cover the gen 5 one and really doesn't matter imo

The Tepig line is from Gen 5 and they said that the first gym is ALWAYS rock and later they pointed out that Unova doesn't even have a rock gym even though Johto didn't either.

I honestly think it-s just a cool type combo. I mean, highly skilled martial artist with pyrokinesis defiantly caught the attention of kids that just wanted cool monsters

I always thought it was type synthesis. Fire and fighting are both high ATK low DEF type, fure and fighting allow for both physical and special glass cannons.

It's the STARTERS. They are important to you, they will probably be on your team until the end of the game. Some variety would be nice.
