Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way from its tabletop RPG roots, but there are a few things Brian David Gilbert wants the game to keep from Cyberpunk 2020

In case nobody posted this before, Cyberpunk Red does actually address the cyberpsychosis thing and clarifies that necessary or minor body modification such as getting a replacement arm or getting gender confirmation surgery cost absolutely no humanity, nor does stuff like non-intrusive additions like glow in the dark tattoos.
What causes cyberpsychosis is stuff like gouging out your eyes or chopping off your arm to replace it with robot parts, replacing your feet with hooves, or carving off your own face just to have mechanical shit exposed. These things are self mutilation for self gratification which is very out of touch with humanity.
Also CYberpsychosis is actually explained to be a kind of dissociative disorder in which you stop seeing you and other humans as full living organisms and instead just a collection of parts.
Obviously none of this is meant as a take that or anything, I'm more just letting folk know if that rubbed you the wrong way don't worry they addressed and fixed it.

The more unique a piece of art is, the more you need to drop your expectations to fully experience what it has to offer. So many people completely missed Cyberpunk because of whatever rage was there in the media at launch (certainly nothing to do with the fact that it was the most anticipated game since GTA5 that was about to launch for Christmas and cripple sales for everybody. And yeah guys. if you just play the game for what it is. you will find a tremendous experience.

Interesting enough, Night City was also the name of a place in WIlliam Gibson's book Neuromancer, one of the books credited with 'starting' the cyberpunk genre. Honestly if you read the book now it could almost come across as a cyberpunk 2020/2077 side story as a lot of the imagery, themes, and characters could just as easily fit into the game.

i kinda wish they just made this game online. i mean in the ttrpg u work with a party and do quests so it makes sense to have the game be a multiplayer. but at the same time this means we cant really do side stories which were one of the few parts i actually enjoyed about cp 2077

-We just won't get to experience those events ourselves- Well, that's where you're wrong, Bucko.
The rest of it is spot-on, though. They definitely looked at a lot of the stuff from 2020, and made it canon. The 57 year difference means the in-between details can be waved away.

I remember when the trailer with Keanu was revealed, I straight-up recognised Johnny Silverhand before I realised it was Keanu. I literally punched the air yelling 'IT'S JOHNNY SILVERHAND! IT'S JOHNNY SILVERHAND! '
My girlfriend was the one to point out it was Keanu.

Johnny indeed started a Riot - possibly several depending on your actions!
Despite the crap it gets (a lot of it being sue to rushed/crunched development, ect ect ect) 2077 does legitimately do some things very well - particularly its characters and stories.

wait, does this mean another cyberpunk game (or something) will be released in 2077 (the rpg is called cyberpunk 2020 and the new one was released. in 2020) and that cyberpunk 2077 will be scarily accurate leading up to irl 2077?

damn, in the 2. 0 update they even have a system that kinda replicates the humanity system; cyberware capacity. kinda cool going back to this and seeing just how much got put into the game and even more after some updates!

Me coming to this video after Cyberpunk 2077 and seeing how hyped BDG was for a game that turned out to be hot garbage: :'(
Me realizing the tabletop RPG that inspired Cyberpunk 2077 is really good: :)

I once found a copy of the Cyberpunk 2020 handbook at a Half-Price Books. Unfortunately, it was about $100. Still wish I'd had the money and my frequent buyer's card stamps ready for 25% off -

It is sad to see how this over-praising of Keanu worked just fine for the promotion and pre-buy, since CDPR mainly used him as a preventive escape goat for the incoming disaster.

As much shit as the game got, I truly and deeply believe the game had style and is a solid concept and foundation that just wasn-t polished and expanded upon enough!

1: 47 to 2: 09, the delivery of 'ehehe, I love escapist fiction' paired with Brian's face actually had me crying laughing. Amazing

I went to hit the like button about 11 times and every time after the first I wished that I could have liked it even harder
reply

Brian: (on Cyberpsycosis) I don-t think Project Red will commit to that
Regina Jones: -Am I a joke to you? -

reply

Dear Brian you don't need a good excuse or reason to play that game. You just need willing people and to have fun with it.
reply

Cyberpunk 2077 probably got a bit more inspiration from cyberpunk red.
At least according to cyberpunk red

reply

It's a shame we didn't get to see Morgan Blackhand. Maybe in a future DLC once they are done patching the game.
