Only adults pick up on these things in A Cinderella Story. For this list, well be looking at plot points, subtleties, and odd bits in the teenage rom-com that we now only pick up on as adults. Our countdown includes the film is full of nostalgia, Austin's not all that, Hal is kind of irresponsible, and more! Did YOU watch this movie growing up?

You know, as the OG A Cinderella Story this movie has always held a special place in my heart. But I must say I love some elements in newer ones better (relationship between two mains, for example. Another Cinderella Story has probably become my favorite (love the Mary-Joey relationship and Tami is amazing, although A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish was pretty good, too (love how the getting away from evil stepmother storyline/scene goes in that movie. OG will always be nostalgic, but (and I may be alone here) I feel some of the other ones actually did it better.

It always gets on my nerves when people constantly complain about how no one is recognized due to a wig on or a mask on when they clearly should know that person or recognize the voice.
It is because it is movie logic!
Movies are a suspension of belief from the real world so, of course, it makes complete sense for Austin not to actually recognize Sam behind that mask.
Yet if that happened in real life then yeah anyone would have been a big time idiot for not figuring out right away. Lol

A Cinderella Story remains an absolute favourite from my childhood. As an adult, I see that Sam is a great protagonist and the movie is all about building confidence in herself. Alongside Carter and Rhonda, who seem to be the only other two characters that have redeemable qualities, Sam develops a new sense of self to defend herself from her stepfamily.
Also I think the MVP award is tied between Carter and Ryan Henson (Austin's friend)
Everyone else is either iconic, mean or a dumbass.

The last one you got many things wrong
--the hair wasn't the same when she was at the dance compared to being at thd diner
--She was wearing makeup at the dance and not at the diner
--And height? At the diner they are sitting down when she is serving them so height isn't as visible
-finally on the voice. In the diner and at school her voice can sound different with the background noise included
Also her voice isn't very distinctive to be heard

That's why I consider A CINDERELLA STORY to be one of the most unbearable teen movies I've ever seen; the vicious maltreatment Sam receives throughout the film was not only beyond cruel, but also downright nihilistic. Even ELEPHANT or BULLY were more tolerable than this film, because at least you'd expect something like that to happen in those kinds of films.

As an adult the first thing I realized is that Austin is a fking red flag with everything. I still enjoy the movie with Jennifer Cooldrige and also Regina King. Both very funny, specially Jennifer. And I also like Hillary Duff. But god I hate Austin. Almost as much as I hate Lucas on OTH. I have a problem with CMM

I definitely understood the first one way too young but with different arguments with people thinking that they can guilt trip into staying home, never leaving the town, county, state, or always telling me You will never it far if you leave and you will come crawling back for money.

What's funny is that the child neglect and broken child labor laws were the most believable. All they care about is if you have food, a bed, hot water, and no obvious marks on your body. This is reality and its horrifying how common it is, especially amongst the wealthy.

5: 22 Ok slightly disagree because Chad Michael Murray is cute but theoretically, shed be better off as Aroace and love her chosen family. Her friendship with Carter is very Aroace-coded. Both show strong personalities and dont need someone.

Plus, when Carter was entering the diner as Zoro to meet Sam, Austin was leaving, then Zoro shows up with Cinderella. He should have known. Truth is, I knew all this as a kid but I just wanted to enjoy the movie without thinking too deep.
reply

I appreciated that they simply had Sam and Carter stay friends the entire time, with neither of them being shown to secretly harbour a crush on the other. Platonic friendships are just as rewarding as romantic relationships.

I saw this film as an adult and I agree Austin's not that good a guy but I do like that Sam confronts him about it the film's aware of his toxicity and Sam wasn't going to accept him unless he actually owns up to things
reply

Number 2 is where you guys are reading too much into it. Number one is if he doesn't notice it is Sam its probably because their school has over 3500 kids. plus people look different when they are dressed up.
reply

Sam has the right to walk out of her family for all the abuse she received and at least move in with carter or rhonda or any one of the employees at diners. They treat her like family more than her family
reply

Theres also the hypocrisy of everyone treating Sam like shes garbage for being a waitress at her familys diner while Austin is treated like a king, yet he works at his fatherss car wash? Ooooookayyyyy
reply

how about the whole the only fairytales in my life, were the ones I read about in books. which means she probably still read that storybook, which means that she should have found the will.
reply

Are we not gonna talk about the teacher (Mrs. Wells) who had a inappropriate crush on a student (Ryan played by actor JD Pardo) or when David tried to force himself onto Shelby at the dance?
reply

1st Cinderella story generally made me mad bc of the treatment towards sam and also dragging Austin down in a crossfire during public humiliation. Nonetheless, it's a great movie overall
reply

Oh gosh, i have not seen this movie in a hot minute. I love it so much. Did you know Chad Michael Murray was in Agent Carter? I watched the show not realizing it was him.
reply

Growing up, I always believed that Hal hid the will from Fiona because he noticed that she was getting greedy. He did notice Fiona's behavior but after they got married.
reply

You know, a mean-spirited story is the result of lazy writing
They were trying really hard to make the main character suffer in order to make us feel sorry for her

reply

Honestly, a Cinderella story is one of my favorite rom-coms the one thing I will definitely say is that those tanning goggles look absolutely ridiculous on ANYBODY.
reply

7: 58 because he read her that book like every night. Plus if he hid it somewhere easy to find Fiona would have found it and done to it what she did to the original.
reply

I think that if Cinderella Story wasn't a kid movie, Sam would have attempted suicide for all the abuse and bullying she received from family and school.
reply

i find it kinda funny (in an ironic way) that austin's dad here is peyton's dad on one tree hill, where chad michael murray played her girlfriend. LOL
reply

1: 10 Ive never seen this, but this is the plan he has for his son? If youre going to dictate his life at least have some worthwhile plans for him.
reply

Carters obsession with Shelby is unfortunately a common thing in school, especially high school. Though I love how he shrugged her off in the end.
reply

I don't know about number 1 you know. Lois Lane didn't recognize Clark + Superman and she is a investigate journalist, poor Austin LOL
reply

3: 33 Of course my favourite part is Laugh Out Loud. which is so random
P. S. I love the Flip Phones

reply

I always thought the step mom killed Sam's dad at the beginning and just blamed it on the earthquake.
