Its writing is unoriginal, the ideas and contexts behind the screen are not original and it is a blatant attempt to 'help' people believe society's ideas about mental health are the best or most appropriate available. Why say this? By the end of the 3rd season you may have 'new beliefs/attitudes' about you, other people and society and the area of mental health that were not naturally present before viewing it. This is not a sign of learning, it is a sign of being 'managed'. Why say this? You didn't arrive at anything yourself, you were in fact 'fed it' exactly as you would feed a baby. And to add, normal everyday people need to be very careful to remember, the tv show also subtly weighs-in. pushing the idea that 'people' are in fact mentally ill and 'need help'. It shows how lazy (or 'directed') the writers have become these days. People do not understand how much their real lives are influenced by television/films and how far people have drifted from reality. Just some 'small details' most people miss.

In the last episode, Roy takes Jamie to a bar. Jamie hasn't been allowed a drink since he started training with Roy.
The beer is placed on the bar. Jamie runs his finger down the bottle, picks it up, downs it in one then says worth the wait
This is a reference to Ice Cold in Alex where John Mills does the same thing
However.
That section of the film was used in a Carlsberg advert in the mid 1980's, so Jamie's probably copying the advert not the film
And.
John Mills says worth waiting for so Jamie got the quote wrong

In Season 2 Episode 6 of Ted Lasso (about 4: 30 min in, while listing antagonists i. e. David and Goliath, Ted mentions Steve Wiebe vs Billy Mitchell, a somewhat obscure reference to a 2007 documentary about Donkey Kong video-game competitors Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell. It was directed by Seth Gordon, a friend of Jason Sudeikis. I substituted for math teacher Wiebe when he took leave to do the movie and I was surprised and delighted when the reference popped up, especially knowing most people wouldnt have a clue.

Anyone catch the pinball machine that Beard and Lasso were playing at the end of season 3 when Ted decides to return to the US? It was Wizard of Oz themed - as in Kansas - there's no place like home. And I believe that the closing credits song was Diana Ross from The Wiz movie, titled Home. In the final game Ted is wearing red tennis shoes - ruby slippers reference? If this series is a reimagining of The Wizard of Oz, it seems appropriate that Rupert would represent the Wicked Witch of the West (Ham.

1. Colin being gay was referenced in Season 2 when he talks about Grindr when Keeley talks about Bantr
2. When She's like A Rainbow plays, you can see Higgins' wife dressed in Blue & Keeley dressed in Gold when the lyrics kick in about she's dressed in Blue/Gold respectively.
3. Ted reading Henry Marcus Rashford's book and Marcus himself is referenced in the show via Sam Obisanya at times and Jason Sudeikis himself took a stand for Marcus in real life when he faced abuse after the Euros.

There are more Cheers references:
-The mystery couple in Season 2 turns out to be Sam and Rebecca (Ted Danson and Kirstie Alley's characters in Cheers.
-When the actor that played Coach died, they Cheers cast moved a picture of Geronimo that was in his dressing room to the bar wall on set, the last thing Sam does in the series finale is straighten the picture. The same print of Geronimo is on the wall in Mae's pub, and in the series finale she straightens it.

My fave is the shoutout to Hamilton in S2E01. In the pub, Ted asks Beard Can I be real a second, forget my meal a second? And Beard replies (in time to keep the original rhythm) Put down your beer and tell your buddy how you feel a second?
It riffs on the line sung by Washington in Right Hand Man: Can I be real a second? For just a millisecond? Let down my guard and tell the people how I feel a second?

There was a very obvious marvelous Mrs Maisel reference early in season 3. And I believe there is a Ted Lasso Reference in marvelous Mrs Maisel. In the latest episode midge struggles to remember the term semantic satiation which is a call back to season 1 of Ted lasso. I dont think its a coincidence. But it could be.

I'm 13 days late to this Mojo video, so maybe somebody already post this hidden detail, but I am going for it.
In the Sunflower episode (Amsterdam, Jamie and Roy bike ride to see windmills reminds me of the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, especially the song playing Raindrops Falling on My Head.

Ok no one has said this yet but. In the episode they referenced pep guadiolas playing style at man city. They were about to play arsenal. Who coached under pep? Mikel arteta. Where is mikel the head coach of? Arsenal. So they are trying to play Peps style against someone who is very familiar with pep

At the end of season 2 and Nate rants at Ted, Nate is angry that The photo he gave Ted isnt on display at the office but when we see Ted preparing for the funeral in an earlier episode the photo is on the dresser Ted's apartment a much more personal setting.

I also liked that the doctor who tended to Sharon when she was hit on her bike was Roy's sister. They made a pretty obvious nod in that episode where she was in the office and it immediately went to Roy at the parent teacher conference
reply

Something about the books, in the last episode of the show you can see that Jamie has the book that Ted gave him even though he originally throw it out. Its seen when the team are revealing their pieces of the believe sign
reply

The Amsterdam ep starts with Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. On the boat with Rebecca, there are 3 birds on the wall by the fireplace. Plus all the triangle references including the triangle shaped log on that fireplace.

in s2 when Ted persuades Roy to join the team as a coach, he uses a phrase i'm just a person standing in front of the boy, asking him to- which is the reference to a romcom Notting Hill with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts
reply

You forgot the one where Roy Kent describes how hed get back at a bully. He goes on to say 4am is is the best time to attack as the victim is least likely to fight back.
He later goes on to train Jamie early at 4am.

Love Actually was directed by Richard Curtis who always has a character called Bernard in his films and TV shows. I wonder if calling Phoebe's bully Bernard was a further nod to Curtis in the cue card scene.

In the first episode Ted uses masking tape to cover keeleys boobs on Jamie's poster. In the last episode Roy hangs his nieces drawing of breasts in the office also with masking tape covering nipples

Another movie reference from season 3. When McAdoo takes the corner kick during practice and cracks the window, Baz in the stands says Just a bit outside is another classic Major League reference

All these smart film buffs and nobody connecting Dani's bracelets / necklace to Ted reading Polan's book on psycadelics? Shame. Here's to designating Cerro El Quemado a unesco site.

No one ever mentions that Phoebe's teacher, Ms. Bowen (whose name we later learn is Leann) is the name of one of the producers in the opening credits of like every episode!

One of my all time favourite shows, I laughed but oh did I cry. Part of me wishes we could've gotten more seasons but I'm glad it ended the way it did. It was perfect.
reply

A small detail I noticed was the dissociative look Jamie gets when Ted shouts at him in s1 about practise. Jamie has that same look every time his father shouts at him.
reply

Very enjoyable and enjoyed seeing myself a number of times as one of Teds drinking buddies! I had the privilege to be on pretty much every episode - from start to finish!
reply

A big one for me was Sam's dad, in an earlier season Sam says his dad pulls on his ear for good luck. When we meet his dad in s3 and Sam is upset, ola tugs his ears

The first scene with Coach Beard he's reading Inventing the Pyramid which is the stratagy Coach Lasso thinks he invents out of thin air in season three.

The same selfie guy on the pilot runs into Ted in the airport in the last episode and gets another selfie as he's leaving and calls it and ussie, not a selfie.
