My favorite running (like every ep) gag was Davids choice in fashion. I know it was supposed to come off as over the top, ridiculous, & odd (as well as the special care he gives his knits-which most of the world calls sweaters. Some of them admittedly cracked me up, but most of the time I was envious. Im sure part of that is the fact that I became totally enamored with the character of David Rose. And from his public interviews & appearances, Daniel Levy is a doll as well.

I would definitely include Moiras smile. Not just her normal smile, her show-full-set-of-teeth-and-gums smile hahaha (one time this happened was when she was supposed to meet the press after she was supposed to break the news that she wasnt dead. She gives this smile as she walks out the door of her room expecting throngs of cameras and fans)

No one mentioned Alexis' t-Rex arms and how common that stance is with her and how Anne Murphy purposely makes this a quick with her character, which she credits some high profile celebrities in coming up with Alexis' signature hand movements which she described as a T-Rex playing the piano at an old-timey saloon.

Moiras accent is a Canadian thing, Its kind of how we would pretend to speak in a La-dee-da way, about someone who is full of self-importance. Whats hilarious to me as a Canadian fan is that Moira has so naively taken on this way of speaking for real. Lots of irony there.

My favorite running gag was how none of the members of the Rose family (Stevie included) ever paid for anything at Rose Apothecary. From Alexis stealing lip balms to Moira putting a jar of cream in her purse to Stevie leaving with a plunger, it cracks me up everytime.
reply

It's not that Stevie didn't know what to do with the makeup kit. It's that she doesn't wear makeup and isn't interested in doing so. Her over the top makeup application was intentional sarcasm and a message to Johnny that it was not an appropriate gift.

One of my favorite things that wasnt mentioned was how Alexis would put her hands out vertically on a desk or table and lift them up and down when she was telling a story. I dont know how else to explain the movement.
Anyone else notice this?

reply

Also the Tamagotchi story between Alexis and David and then Stevie is playing with one at the desk.
Also Moira mentions a memory of a Galapagonian tortoise foot bath which ties into the galapagos islands with Ted later in the show.

reply

Not a gag, but David's head is on a swivel, most often doing a quick shake no when he's responding or making a point--even when agreeing. Side to side, even front to back and tilting up and down. Dan Levy does not do this irl!

Learn Canadian before you post. This show originally and always broadcast on CBC was not originally an American show. Please remember that or research that before you broadcast your interpretations of the show. Thank you.

I love that scene in the car. David was like I was worrying bout you when yoh was traveling all over. they should count down 10 more serious moments. I love them. add depth to character.

If I watch too much Schitts Creek in a row, I catch myself accidentally talking like Moira. No one else in my family watches this, so then everyone thinks Im nuts.
reply

I soo love this show! I am not one to watch tv series but Schitts Creek hit the jackpot for me!
Bebe is not a mispronounciation as it is Frecnh for baby.

reply

I've noticed that David cannot ever keep a secret party a secret, he blows it with Moira and later with Patrick's birthday and his parents. Is that a gag?
reply

Some more: 1. David always wears black and white.
2. The way Moira dresses is always over-the-top.
3. The family always barges in on each other.

reply

I think Jocelyn's changing hairstyles throughout the series should make the list too. Including when she got Moira to go with her to her hair salon.
reply

It is not a running gag that David and Moira basically only wear black and white? To me this is a reminder that Moira loves David more than Alexis.
reply

The first ones listed, but ranked as last, were truly interesting, i. e. I didn't catch the fake book one, the higher ranked ones nobody missed.
reply

Can you actually own a town? What does that actually mean? Don't you have to own the deeds to all the individual properties? CAN YOU OWN A TOWN!
reply

I agree 1, 000% on Catherine O' Hara's Moira's Rose's (hehe) accent. That CANNOT be touched or even redone. It's too damn funny and original.
reply

I want to like this show because of the people involved, but I can't stop thinking this is the Friends to Arrested Development's Seinfeld.
reply

Maybe it's not frequent enough to be considered a running gag, but I love David and Stevie's Best Wishes Warmest Regards exchange.
reply

The running gag of Ray have so many successful, unrelated small businesses. or everyone loving Patrick except for Ronnie.
reply

The Roses have as many clothes while in Schitts Creek as the Howells did on Gilligan's Island.
The show is brilliant.

reply

Great show. but why does David always have that I just smelled the worst fart of my life look on his face the entire show
reply

The fact that they never have champagne, its always jampagne some off-brand budget version of bubbly vino.
reply

It is IMPOSIBLE to do Moira's voice. And I'm those kind of people that normally does good impersonations
reply

Stevie knows how to do makeup so its not that she didnt know what to do with it its just insulting lol
