The Best Fantasy Movies Of 2019 That Nobody Is Talking About sadlobster1: First of all, Kid Who Would Be King did something Legend of the Sword failed at completely; it felt like a true King Arthur story. Sure, it was set within the 21st Century but KWWBK actually used several elements from Arthurian lore.
There was no shaky cam, no grunge rock soundtrack and what they did with Merlin's character was totally believable. Alas, because of the EXTREMELY poor performance of the latter film and the fact only a few people (like me) actually went to see Kid Who Would Be King in theaters. It feels like no one will make a true blue King Arthur film again. which is both a good and bad thing.
It's a bad thing because King Arthur is a great character that modern audiences should get to know about. But it would end up becoming terrible because of how Hollywood today doesn't want to tell a straight-forward version of the story.
Nope; they've gotta add multi-racial cast for the wrong role (ex. Jamie Foxx really brought the little in his version of Little John. namely because of how short he is, compared to how he was in the story) They've gotta have references of modern warfare in a MEDIEVAL SETTING, they've gotta put grunge music in the sountrack instead of orchestral symphonies (I'm talking John Williams, Howard Shore, Basil Poldouris or even Danny Elfman style symphonies) They've gotta make the lead into a complete moron or make the side characters appear more capable.
But even worse, they try to make their movies as flashy as MCU movies.
Newsflash, Hollywood; before Avengers came around, Lord of the Rings and Avatar were the big dogs on campus. They didn't need explosions or flashy CG to be awesome, they had great casts, the soundtracks were timeless and the battles were epic (something Guy Ritchie clearly doesn't understand)
Second, I've never heard of The Headhunter until now. but it looks like a good movie to check out; same with The Changeover.
Third, I saw Yesterday in theaters and had a wonderful time. I especially loved Robert Carlyle's performance as John Lennon. It was so nice to see him acting again, after Once Upon A Time ended.
Fourth, Aniara feels more like a sci-fi movie than a fantasy one. In which case, I will happily ignore it; all that space and techno jargon never appealed to me. Which is why Star Wars (save for Revenge of the Sith and a few animated incarnations, like the one made by Genndy Tartatovsky) or Star Trek never appealed to me.
Fifth, ANOTHER superhero movie. really; I'm so done with that garbage.
Sixth, when I saw the trailer for it; I thought I Am Mother would be a cool movie. But then the reviews got out and I immediately chose not to see it

Nothing but post-apocalyptic movies about doom on earth, technology, and the human spirit full of love, hope, and salvation despite the odds. All of this equals one big = BORING!

Your plot points on the film yesterday, are wrong. Part of the charm of the film is that he DOESNT know all the Beatles songs by heart. Did you even watch it?

No ones talks about these movies because they are not remakes or sequels of already established franchises. Originality doesn't sell.

Thanks looper I love this. I live way out in the middle of nowhere in Australia and its hard to keep up with all the good stuff.

Reboots are still reboots. I prefer my classic 40s Sword in the Stone. You got half these right, but. couple of these are garbage.

Ive never seen The kid who would be king but it made me disappointed that it wasn't connected to the British show marlin.
