Ok so. This uses Retroarch. Cool. But why is the Mame emulation so bad? I'm fairly sure at the time of this video, Retroarch had better Mame emulation. Nowadays it's better, but even then it was good.
It's a cool idea, a small fairly cheap arcade cabinet that plays tons of games. But it doesn't seem like it's done quite well enough for me. Right off the bat, it would be better to have a 4: 3 screen instead, especially since it seems to force games to stretch to fit. A lot of games just don't look good when stretched like that. The frontend could be better. I'd rather have Hyperspin.
Just some small problems and whatnot. For me, if I was gonna go out of my way to get a small arcade cabinet like this, there's better ones I can buy. They're way more expensive, sure, but they're way better quality, and don't have weird emulation problems. Not to mention they look nicer. The only real advantage to this one, is that you can plug in controllers to use instead, or to play 2 player games. But even then, I'm sure if you asked when you were getting one made by someone else, you could get some on there.

Yes, this video is years almost five years old but I just need to get this of my chest or I won't sleep tonight:
To me, it seems to be made of beech plywood, not birch or oak. It is quite well visible in the closeup of the back where you showed the R-Pi. Sorry for nitpicking. I really like your videos, Clint. Keep them coming! :)
EDIT: I might have been wrong. The front looks a bit different, and birch is definitely a possibility. Sorry if I caused irritation. It was not my intention.

I'd like to see a full size arcade cabinet version of that.
Especially with the Raspberry Pi 2, which came out literally 2 seconds after the B+ (you'd think with them following Acorn, they'd call the PI2 Archimedes, but no. having said that, Acorn themselves weren't keen on the Archimedes name)
By the way, I'd still love to see you review the Archimedes, although from what I undertand, Archies aren't easy to find even in the UK let alone the US

When I changed laptops over the MX18 alienware, it had a bunch of sharp edges that I complained about because on the MX15 it was smooth and allowed me to rest my wrists; but it's actually a design feature to encourage you to have proper posture to not get carpal tunnel.

its cool but. for $390 i could get a decent modern laptop and install any emulators but also play robo craft/other modern games to

Awesome product and good review.
One question though, could you tell me what Logitech wireless keyboard+mouse combo that is and if you recommend it? Looks like it would be useful for messing with my Raspberry while sitting on the couch.

Very nice review! How do you get the games from the net to the arcade? Is their a beginners guide to understanding how emulators and ROMS work? Is downloading them legal (are there costs? Thanks for you help on this!

I would build a whole different cabinet. in fact it would be beneficial to make the cabinet around the raspberry pi instead from scratch with good 1/2- particle board, sealand, and some thin plexiglass instead.

I have wanted to get one of these for over a year. Do you own that PortaPi or were you borrowing it for the review? Of the kits out there I have found, this one is by far the most appealing to me.
