Just watched this and honestly. the motivation felt weak to me.
Why merge consciousness when you could stay individual and still share deep connection True intimacy comes from choosing each other repeatedly, not erasing the boundaries that make choice possible.
The professor's warning about dominant minds taking over made it feel more like possession than love. And what happens to all forms of human connection - emotional, physical, spiritual - when you become one entity
That said, the coin symbolism was beautifully executed - such a simple object carrying the weight of identity. The performances felt genuinely vulnerable, especially Laverna's hesitation.
DUST always delivers solid storytelling, and the premise itself was thought-provoking even if I wanted more depth.
Anyone else think this was oddly. lonely Despite being about ultimate connection

Hey everyone! I'm David, the writer/director of this short film. I've poured my imagination into fusing sci-fi and romantic drama to explore memory, empathy, identity, and codependency. Sci-fi is one of my favorite genres, because it allows us to take familiar human experiences and put them under a magnifying glass. In this case, I wanted to ask, what if technology allowed us to push our universal desire for human connection to the most extreme limit by literally coalescing consciousnesses What might that look like What might that feel like And what of your fear of losing yourself in the process I'm thrilled to share this film with you on DUST. Feel free to hit me with any questions, theories, or critiques in the comments below; I'm all ears and excited to connect!

I'm not sure why anyone would try an experiment to 'coalesce' minds It seems it would drive people insane or be used to do terrible things. So. I thought this would veer more into a horror concept at the end. The lead character already looked like he was half-a-cup of coffee away from a Twilight Zone meltdown. 'Combining subjective experiences'. that's a logical fallacy, so it's not subjective. I guess I can't make sense of it. But, it was different, that's for sure. Good luck on your future projects.

and what if the more dominant mind takes over the other
watching this reminded me of 1) jujutsu kaisen and 2) that black mirror episode where the guy puts the metal hat on people and can feel what they’re feeling but then it breaks and becomes corrupted so that sensations are reversed and he feels pleasure when the other person feels pain so he starts putting the hat on mfers and chopping them up (before chopping up himself)
awesome watch

Covering a lot of ground in 9 minutes! Tension builds as we contemplate the coalescence as threat to individual identity vs an upgrade in the connection between two distinct identities, meanwhile the level of trust in the couple's relationship seems insufficient for a normal relationship's intimacy, not to mention full brain to brain interface!

Consecuencias e implicaciones. como las que tuvimos cuando se creo la imprenta por Johannes Gutenberg. Dandonos la posibilidad de conocer la experiencias de todos. Consequences and implications. as we had when the printing press was created by Johannes Gutenberg. Giving us the possibility to know everyone's experiences.

It’s actually good but I have some questions as the procedure completed I supposed laverna is dominant mind and erase the man’s mind and identity, when she raises her left hand but the man raised his right hand, was that the procedure is not completely successful or just mistakes

After the coalescing consciousness process, Janus picks up Laverna's lucky coin, which no longer has any meaning for her since she has no reaction. Laverna seems to have lost her identity and memories, as Janus' mind has taken over Laverna's.

Amazing Look Into The Dominant, And Submissive Mental Personalities Minds, And What Can, Or Could Supposedly Happen, If They Are Artificially, And Electronically-Digitally Intertwined Into 1 Consciousness. .. Ouch, And Look Out. .. '-o

Hello David. Love the concept. As a psychiatrist I try to empathize but find to do so I need to be open to my own feelings, then a coalescence begins similar to your description. Have you further developed the idea

Well I don't think I'd ever sign up for that procedure, no matter how much in love I was. It's enough for me to have just me in my brain without having another person too. I like just being me.

This concept is sort of the ultimate invasion of privacy. Your thoughts can no longer be considered your own. It can be possible to love someone so much that it hurts you both in the process.

This was really good! Such an interesting and yet scary experiment to do. And the results in the end left me wondering what will they do now This would make an amazing series.

Janus - the two-faced Roman god of beginnings, endings, duality, transition, time, and gates with the modern equivalency being on and off, 0 or 1.

The scene that her spouse took the coin is her way to tell that she owns him, like the flashback with her father, the reason why she took it.

9 minutes to only ask what if two minds became one Seems a bit incomplete. Gem fusion in Steven Universe explores this idea more deeply

This had a lot of promise but the execution was a bit off. I would love to see this story well-produced and about 10 minutes longer.
