It would have been better without the mysterious Torture-People keeping him captive. Border Crossing can be unpleasant, but an obviously fake but very well made passport and someone who believes the passport is real is not going to be seen as a threat. maybe 'not released until we understand', but the scenario is too weird to seem like a threat. So the Noise torture and the woman kicking him do not make sense and basically ruin an otherwise promising film.

I'm really not sure what that means. Maybe a secret government organization is experimenting to see if brainwashing can go so far as to make you believe your own country doesn't exist.
Maybe the USA wants to achieve world domination by erasing all other countries from people's minds. That's why it says welcome to the United States of America at the end.
I think with clever stories you have to think a lot, but sometimes it can be too much.

This was neither an interesting premise, nor entertaining to watch.
