These days everyone is believing that recycling is a total scam. I still think it's worth it to recycle but I am feeling like a minority with people looking at me like I am a multi-level marketer or something. Most recently I saw this view on The Problem with John Stewart show but that is not the first(or the second) time I have heard that message. People seem to think that because only a small percentage of total plastics is recycled we should not participate in any curbside recycling at all.

Reducing single-use is also a way to help.
For example: that coffee cup. If we could encourage people to use their own reusable cup, that would help. Coffee sellers could sell cups for people who didn't have one (and maybe an incentive like a free 1st refill); sell their product by volume (bigger fill, higher price); etc.

The city needs to move towards a separated waste system based on colored bags. Eskiltuna, Sweden uses it and reduces their waste going into landfills by a SIGNIFICANT margin.

What a HORRIBLE WASTE! NYC used to have citywide recycling, but the geniuses running the show decided to cancel it. What a HORRIBLE WASTE! This cannot go on!

the goal is not to get the trash faster away. the goal is to produce much less trash; ) solves much more problems than faster transports.

More takeaway outlets need to accept and allow reuse-able items, for a discount to help with the single use trash.
