I don-t think criticism is always bad as it can be used to help someone improve which can be another form of kindness. At the same time I not fully against blocking someone if all this person is doing is just insulting you or your posts without getting into debate into what needs improving or what is wrong about it.
On the other hand, I don-t think it should be up to platform to ban someone else having opinions or jokes unless they do something extreme such as inciting people to doxx or swat someone and anything else you can imagine that is just as bad.
Just my opinion though

Great way to deal with trolls is not to feed them. Once system detects mean/troll comment, it should not delete the comment or ban account - this informs troll and troll adapts. Better way is to hide comment from everybody except the troll. Nobody can reply to troll, so troll is not fed with response. Account is not banned, so troll doesn't create new one. It takes longer time for troll to realise they're not getting attention. Troll wastes more time getting heard and it is less likely troll will continue with the activity.

Yeah, there's nothing to worry about here. Just another private company deciding that opinions they don't like is hate speech. It's not like this will snowball into anything bad for our country and the world or anything. It's not like as this happens more and more, more people will become desensitized to it and become more accepting of it. It won't spread to the point where entire groups of people with a certain idea are marginalized and ostracized by society at large. Oh, shit, lol. It's already happening.

Do people even understand freedom of speech?
Why are all of you using it as an argument? This is a business and last time I checked even in the real world you can't just verbally harass customers in a business without getting kicked out. That never has been a part of your freedom of speech. Please stop misusing that right.
If you are worried about them censoring anyone they don't like even though they aren't trolling then that's understandable. But at least give it time to see what they do.

reply

All those people crying -censorship- and calling it -removing discussion- are the ones who probably deserve to get blocked. Don't try to establish the strawman that you can't have a discussion without being an Idiot. And if you really can't, well than blocking seems to work just fine.

Stage 1- Block trolls
Stage 2- Block alternate views.
Stage 3- Promote views you agree with.
Stage 4- Control the mind of the masses, take over the world.
Stage 5- Control the affairs of humans and slowly take over their society.

If they are banning people for disagreeing with others publicly that isnt cool.
But i am pro-banning troll accounts as long as they are troll accounts and not a personal account that sometimes posts sarcastically.

One important point that I don't mention in the interview: you can turn this feature off on your own feed if you want. Just go into settings / comments. And then toggle -hide offensive comments. -
reply

I don't think people here get that it's only removing the incredible horrible comments. You can have an opinion and speak without being mean. Well at least most people can.
reply

Give people the option to activate this feature. Shouldn't be mandatory. I can see how this would be a good idea to keep celebrities on their platform. A lot of ad dollars.
