I just used a number 5 welder goggle and duct taped 3 sunglasses to watch the partial solar eclipse. Basically, the point to use special lens is to reduce the luminosity of the sun so that it won't burn your eyes. Also, for homemade lens, you still don't want to stare at the sun for too long (I stared at it for max 3 minutes) and take short breaks after watching.

Why does stacking multiple pairs of sunglasses not work? Genuinely curious. That is exactly what I did yesterday, and I saw the eclipse just fine. So what's wrong with that? (Not being sarcastic, I'm seriously interested to know why that's a problem) It was also partly cloudy where I was.

All that is BS I look at the sun no protection as fine then I used 3 pairs of glasses and I can see it perfectly fine too future reference do not waste your money on these glasses

i dont understand why it would -burn your retinas- isnt it just like looking at the sun? Or does it like get brighter on a solar eclipse
