Despite of how the boxes are placed at first, when they get to their destination, they may switch sides. How can we not know if they are going to check the lid or the number first? According to rule #1, you first have to put an even number, and then, place a red lid. But hoy are they going to know which one was first? If the two boxes facing the numbers up had red lids, it wouldn't matter. This riddle has some wholes that need to be filled for its correction. Because, if we actually think objectivily, thinking the condition must go in two directions is the best way of thinking. Otherwise, the protocol is just not doing its job.

For the bonus riddle you open any of the four boxes (example the apple box, if the correct product is inside you know the other three are mislabeled. If it holds another product (say carrots) you know the first box and the intended box for the discovered product are mislabeled. Check the second box (intended for carrots) to find the third mislabeled product. Similar to the missing instrument puzzle.
So at most you would only need to check two boxes.

for the bonus ridddle, you have to check 3 of the boxes
since once you check 3 you will know what the lase one is. if all 3 don't match, then the one you didn't check does. and If you found the match in the 3, the 4th one does not match

2 for the bonus riddle
Open the box with the label apples
If it has apple then youre okay
If not, open the box of the label of what is inside
You dont need to open the box with the one inside because it has apples in it

If you know the protocol for the distant kingdom, then why not just have all boxes have a odd number and a red top? Plus, the protocol has nothing about uncolored-top boxes or boxes with no number on the bottom, so.

I feel all TedEd riddles can't be solved with common sense, but acquire high level logic and mathematic. Most of them using mathematic prinsipals that I either don't know or don't understand.

Is there something called fallacy of the inverse where someone would think that just because something is true means that the inverse is also true?
