Why is Greenland a part of Denmark?

Why is Greenland a part of Denmark? Id always wondered how the Vikings reached Greenland, but after visiting Norway one summer, I realised that in the long Northern days it must have been quite possible, if not easy: Norway>Shetland 200 miles: Shetland>Faroes 200 miles; Faroes>Iceland 300 miles; Iceland>Greenland 200 miles (shortest crossing, but Reykjavik>Cape Farewell much longer. Somewhere on the internet it says that an average speed for a Viking boat would be 15mph, so each of these crossings could have been done within 24hrs, daylight all the way (and they could easily spot icebergs. Greenland>Labrador is 500 miles - much more serious, which probably explains the short life of the settlement(s) there. For comparison, Denmark>England and Norway>Scotland are both about 300 miles, and the Vikings did those trips regularly! Presumably the warm climate around CE 1000 helped as well.\r\n

I wouldn't say -few- kingdoms in Europe.
You have the Kingdoms of:
1) The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
2) Norway
3) Sweden
4) Denmark
5) The Netherlands
6) Belgium
7) Spain
8) Vatican City
Then you have the Principalities of:
1) Monaco
2) Liechtenstein
3) Luxembourg
So a little more than a few -

It's really not the same as Scotland being a part of GB.
Greenland have free healtcare, free higher education and much more being a part of Denmark. You really underestimate how big an influence both Denmark and Greenland have to each other. And most people actually speak danish in Greenland aswell and many danes live in Greenland and vice versa.

-. Eventually, the Chinese will absorve Greenland. In the long run China will make any Chinese-looking person Chinese. If you put an Inuit next to a Chinese you know what I mean. The Inuits are of East Asian race! It-s too late for the European-looking people to exterminate other races like they did in USA and Australia! May God protect the Inuits!

Was watching a program, -Planet Earth Frozen Planet- they went to Greenland and had a segment with two men with a dogsled out on patrol in Greenland. Even though Greenland has autonomy, Greenland is still part of Denmark. Similar to the Falklands Islands are a British overseas territory(We know last year someone was told that Greenland is not for sale.

The 1300 hundreds expeditions of Swedes and Norweigens to Greenland an beyond are exciting. Ev. Greenland became Danish agian. After Napoleonic wars Greenland was about to become Swedish when Denmark saw its defeat (being allied with Napoleon) about 1814. But Swedes to the claim back.

Why does any European country have any form of colony, common wealth, kingdom, or otherwise foreign territory under its control at all?
Everyone go home. Form an empire if you cant go alone. Period.

America still occupies Greenland and we have both military and scientific bases there. absolutely nothing happens in Greenland without U. S. approval. whether Denmark likes it or not.

The script read by the narrator is weird. He was talking about the politics of the country then he just randomly says -Greenland has over 50 settlements-. Poor effort, thumbs down.

Greenland must reamain autonomous under danish realm. but now USA again want to buy it. this might create tensions between Denmark n united states. And that too weaken NATO
reply

I remember when Trump asked if America could buy Greenland? The fake media made out like that's just dumb. There's untouched and untapped resources many many there.

Norway should own Greenland and Faroe islands and not denmark because Norway found them first and is more north than denmark it would make more sence in my opinion.

It's simple: Greenland was almost entirely empty.
A few thousand Inuits on 2, 000, 000 km2 of land.
So the Danish settled a lot of the empty area.

The brutal truth is that Greenland only belongs to Denmark because we decided to give it back after the British threatened to occupy it in WW2.

Norwegians did all the job on colonizing Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands and then Denmark just stole those islands--
