The Second Balkan War - Explained in 10 minutes Im Greek and watching this video made me feel so sad. This video should be a testament of the disasters that aggressive nationalism brings. Had Bulgaria not started this futile war, it would now probably be much larger than its current borders. Instead, they chose to to enter all those bloody wars, so many young people died, and for what? For nothing. This is the main take-away here: nationalistic fantasies bring disasters. They brought disasters to Greece in Anatolia and Cyprus, to Bulgaria in the Second Balkan War and WW1, to Serbia in the 1990s, to every single state in the Balkan region.\r\n

Genocide against the Bulgarians was performed in 1913 by Greek Turkish Serbian and Rumanian forces. Over 1150 Bulgarian villages were aniquilated using genocide practices and the neighboring Turkish Greek, Macedonian, Rumanian and Serbian states are occupying today those settlements. Greece had set the first Concentration Camp at Trikeri and over 20 000 Bulgarians perished there (including civil, religious and business people. The Ottoman Empire killed over 50 000 and forced 0ver 350 000 other Bulgarian women children and old men to leave for ever their homes without any properties.

I am Albanian and we lost of entirely the land of our ancestors. We hated and fought the Ottoman empire and our chauvinist Neighbours not only appreciated our fight for freedom but killed and destroyed our country and our land. This programme does not even mention our fights and talk only for the great powers of the west and the political agreements of the new nation created on our land and elimination of our population. Shame!
reply

Hmmmmmm
My father always says that there is no other country in the whole world
that borders with it's own borders then BULGARIA
remember that.
That was a strategic plan from the west to chop Bulgaria up and make the military smaller then it was those days big and strong
They didn't want it a strong country in the south east region of Europe
Now we are only 100k ready for a war

reply

Really Bulgaria Really? Instead of going for the territory all the way to the Bosphorus strait, you know the important territory that would've brought economic power they went for the pretty much useless territory in the East, they would've probably get the help of Serbia and Greece and Romania too to kick the Ottomans out of Europe for good

Romania was the second country in the world, after France, that had military aviation, and the only one, in the balcan wars. Sometimes the aviators took grenades with them and threw them at the enemy troops, as happened during the Bulgarian siege of the city of Edirne, when the Turkish defenders found themselves hit from the air.

You can increase your credibility by being unbiased. While everyone committed atrocities (my ancestors escaped from the atrocities committed by Bulgarians to spare their lives, you only say Ottomans committed atrocities. Better to change your collaborators, if you want to be credible and unbiased.

Until 9: 53 Balkan states strangled each other and unknown number of civilians has killed but none mentioned. Then here it comes 9: 53 and when Ottomans joined the war, not after 10 seconds -
narrator instantly mentioned Turks killed Bulgarian civillians with no reason. So cheap.

If Ferdinand was so obsessed with expansionism why didn't Bulgaria just attack the ottomans and try to take Constantinople first? Seems like a much better prize than parts of Macedonia. I highly doubt the greeks and the Serbs would have come to the ottoman's aid.
reply

If Bulgaria had been the only country with deployable Nukes back then, lets face it, nobody else wouldve touched them, by fear and threats of annihilation, just allowed to rampage and destroy and murder at will, by demons be driven, evil war is never ending.

A year later Turks were pressured by Germans to cede the Maritsa river and its left bank in order to bring Bulgarians into the First World War on the side of the Central Powers. This territory ceded to Bulgaria has later become a part of Greece.
reply

The video is great but it sounds that Bulgaria just wanted to have more and more territory. Check the ethnic maps of the Balkan during the Ottoman Empire and you will see that Bulgaria wanted to reunited the ethnic bulgarians.
reply

Great sum up of events.
Not to mention sticking Ottoman atrocities to the narrative, not ever mentioning what happened to millions of Balkan Muslims during the first and second Balkan wars.

reply

First Balkan War: Bulgaria/Greece vs. Turkey
Second Balkan War: Greece/Turkey vs. Bulgaria
World War 1: Turkey/Bulgaria vs. Greece
-Eeyup, they're the Trifecta of the Balkans. -

reply

I wish you'd spent more time on the politics and less time on -this is how the army was divided- -they made a 10th division out of some other divisions-, which really teaches nothing
reply

Serbia took Macedonia, we lost many lives then TITO just gave this territory to the non-existent republic of Macedonia, just to make Serbia weaker. Tito, burn in hell.
reply

pretty sure you made amistake while cutting the video. from 2 to 4 minutes you just repeat the same information.
Also add some pauses between sentences when cutting.

reply

Guess why Bulgaria wanted Macedonia so much. There they still talk in our language which is derivative of bulgarian but the world will never be fair for everyone.
reply

Because of Bulgarians, Turkey advanced in Europe once again. If they had joined forces with Greece and Serbia they would have driven away turks for good from Europe!
reply

Im a bit sad for Bulgaria but it was their fault even though serbia may have stollen a bit of territory this wasnt the way and it costed them more territory
reply

Serbia. always wants war. Trough history Serbia attacked almost all of their neighbours. multiple times. Serbia even started WW1 for God's sake!
reply

I still can-t believe and get over the fact of what our (Bulgarian) tsar did. There is a reason it-s called -First national catastrophe-.
reply

as a Serb i am happy to see Bulgaria getting gangbanged by the rest of Balkan. now please don't mind me as i go to Bulgaria on holidays.
reply

a correction at 2: 20 the city was knows as Solun before the Greeks renamed it to Thessaloniki and it used to be our capital
reply

Attention: the word -corps- is pronounced like the word -core, - NOT like -corpse, - which is a dead body-. Good grief
reply

Ahh, normal Bulgaria, geting most land of all of members in the league, and yet not satisfied. Karma is the key.
reply
