Ten Minute English and British History #13 - The First Scottish War of Independence Paul: It's unforgivable that people forget that in 1066 England was conquered and the English nobility was replaced with Williams most loyal FRENCH mates, the English were stripped of their lands and Williams descendants went on to do the same to other parts of the British and Irish Isles.
If the movies particularly Braveheart portrayed the kings of England in this period with French accents maybe people would start to realise that the English were the oppressed and not the oppressors.
But then again that would make the French the bad guys and that's not allowed to happen, gotta feed that anti English sentiment in Scotland and the rest of the world.
The French stitched both the English and the Scots up because it was the squabbles of a French Speaking King of England and the King of France that set Scotland and England at loggerheads.
If people needed evidence of the Plantagenets true nationality look at the hundred years war. It was a French civil war that the French speaking kings of England waged in France for control of their ancestral lands but also to try and get the French crown they had a claim to and of a country they had more in common with.

Break the Union (preferably in a controlled manner)
Its a fake financial and political construct built for Empire.
An Empire that no longer exists.
It has no social or cultural identity.
Its only function is to keep itself in power.
If you love the historical identities of the home nations break up the entity thats selling us all down the river.
Its going to break up anyway so do it now (should have been done decades ago)
While we are at it take several steps away from America no matter who sits in the White House.
If your not interested in our home identities carry on believing in Britain (it will carry on selling you out)
We are in the final phase of Empire the Battle for the Core State.
Something that the elites will not talk about when Empires fail.

Can I just correct your video title - this ISN'T 'British' history, you could technically call it 'English' history as they were one of the protagonists, BUT British history did not start until the Acts of Union 1707 which - in effect - created 'Britain'. Before this it was just English or Scottish history you are talking about. You could instead say that this is part of the history of the 'British Isles' as that term was first coined as early as 1577 BUT the term is by no means a standard term as they are also know as the Anglo-Celtic Isles and the more correct nomenclature would be Atlantic archipelago.

Robert the bruce is my 23rd great grandfather. when the English decided to take over scotland again robert was outnumbered by a land slide. He didn't back down but he went at it a different way than any other king ever before him. He drove away the English without ever engaging into combat. He targeted their recorces and starved and famine set it. They had no choice but to leave defeated without ever once facing the enemy king and his men.

This was a very slightly different version of the story to the one I got from The Passion of the Scots (Brave Heart)
- really, you people should have researched this better, because everybody knows Mel Gibson equals zero historical errors.
In fact if Mel Gibson has anything to do with a historical movie, history actually rewrites itself to fit with his version.

Huntingdonshire (now just a section of Cambridgeshire) was one of those parts actually controlled by Scotland, a legacy of the slightly more amiable relationship of Anglo Saxon England & Scotland. Because King Davids dynasty had partial Anglo Saxon ancestry, those Normans just assumed they controlled Scotland too by default.

The Outlaw King was a movie on netflix about Robert the Bruce. Chris Pine plays him. much of it is fiction but there is a good deal of historically accurate parts and its very entertaining. They messed with some dates and events to make it a more cohesive story but it was still a very good watch

Wallace execution was gruesome! It wasn't the first time someone was hanged, drawned and quartered, but it was still a brutal way to die. Hugh Dispenser the Younger was executed in this fashion while the Queen Isabella wife of Edward II was eating and enjoying the execution. Brutal times!

This makes me want to play Crusader Kings. Real life monarchies is like a pro player building up a rich and strong kingdom and then giving it to a passive noob. Repeat for centuries. Good thing eventually we got semi competent republican governments in the 17-19 century.

Both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown were born in Scotland. Forget about the royal family waving from balconies. In modern Britain the Scottish can lead governments and set policies. The English no longer rule over the Scots. Not in any meaningful way.

John Balliol was chosen over Robert Bruce because he was much more manipulative. and Robert Bruce was raised to be a leader and the king of a country, so it would have taken Edward much more to manipulate him

Good way to summarise, the Englisih against everyone. I am born english but I am definitely Scots and will remain so - by choice. The Scots know their plaice but the english know their place and are content.

As a descendent of the Macleods of Cadboll, from the Macleods of Assynt, it helps to get further understanding of what my ancestors fought, and often died for. . I have Highland blood on both sides of my family.

Ironically, as long and hard as the English tried to conquer Scotland, it was a Scot who became the monarch of England. who then kinda promptly said 'F it! All Y'all English now! Parliament in London only! '

English people and it's rulers didn't seem to treat their Scottish fellows equally. They seemed to suffer from Superiority complex. Edward is a pesky crooky son of a b####.

I just saved a 60 year old Scottish man's life to only be told Scotland is better than England
I could have just left him to drown along with his victim complex.

Long story short Scottish King James 6th of Scotland takes over England, Ireland, France without a Welsh traitor firing an arrow welcome to the United Kingdom
reply

End of days Scotland under James 6th inherits England, Wales, Ireland and most of France without a shot being fired great deal for Scotland to takeover England
reply

wow, it's almost like France was manipulating both England and Scotland for it's own territorial gains the whole time and the Auld Alliance was one big lie!
reply

The fact that they tried to call robert the bruce a traitor for protecting his own country against people like John comlyn already makes him a badass.
