Sorry, but no, sir. This thing is absolutely useless except for amusement or education. One 18650 cell stores roughly 10 Wh of energy, so with your 2 watt cranking power you'd have to crank for 5 hours straight to produce 10 Wh. By that time all the wires and the slipping contact will probably be destroyed. That said, if you really want to carry some 0. 5 - 1 kilograms of 'emergency electrical energy' with you, just get a 10-cell powerbank.

GreatScott! - Loved the ending on this one. Thanks for the laugh. :)
Useful information overall, but I was wondering if mounting the slip ring to something attached to the generator might keep the wires from twisting and possibly breaking eventually due to metal fatigue in the lines. Also, I suspect you could shorten the wires leading to the slip ring quite a bit, and still have it work properly.
Love your videos; keep it up! :)

You way over thought that one. All you had to do was cut the blocks that hold the axle still off the big aluminum pieces and then you can just lock that thing in a vise and spin it. All you needed was a hack saw dude. I build scooters powered by w hoverboard wheels in the back, you use 2 controllers, on one you set it to run backwards so both wheels go the same way.

My dear Scott amazing as always
I have ome upgrade for the project in my humble opinion
you can make a fixed postion for the shaft and a 3D print a crank for the outter rubber wheel installing it by drilling the whole on it
this way you can make it all combact in single unit without interfering the wire
much luv Aladdin

I m loving these motor generator videos!
I ve been wanting to see if I can make a mini wind turbine garden light charger. Instead of those tiny solar panels, use wind to charge those batteries. Might be a fun project?

you can make an attachment to the wheel and fix the axe so you drop the usage of the extra device and while turning the wheel you get the added value of a fly wheel which will maintain the speed while not cranking.

Why not use it with a wind turbine?
If one seeks to stick with the crank shaft, adding a flywheel should help minimize power fluctuation and decrease the fatigue on the a users hand.

Hahaha Imagine doing it in public, and if someone asks you what are you doing, you can just say it is an emergency situation, making power for my power bank Great video!

Great video! I'd be interested to see if you could use a similar concept rigged to a bicycle wheel to charge a battery and power your own DIY 'Copenhagen wheel'.
