Pretty much anything. Sure they can same way as seatbelts can kill you on rare cases. Most of the time seatbelt saves you from permanent damage and reels are about girls doing an awkward dance moves to the same song nobody over 30 has ever even heard of.
So in practice = no, they are not about anything, they are about the same thing over and and over again.

I think a device that lets you discreetly raise an alarm is a good idea, even if it relies on a phone for doing the work. This has been proven by the buttons that they had (maybe still do, but I think it's past that) in banks the clerk would press while continuing to speak normally.

As allways a very cool project. There are combined GPS GSM modules out there. Did you consider to use one of those to reduce the needed space, or do they have drawbags?

Some Quectel modules already have gps inside modem and are very sensitive. In another case, you can use queclocator, which is triangulation based on bts. Not so precise and propertialy of Quectel, but working.

Very nice. You could include an accelerometer also and then use the signal from that to trigger a call, giving you a security system you can buy on your bike!

Change the switch for a simple mercury type switch on my motorbike and I get an alarm if anyone tries to tamper with it or raise it up to steal it.

Would be good to store the last known GPS location so if you're indoors it sends out the latest known (provided there's signal indoors)
