Quick comment about the code. This code is not so crammed with variable storage that there is an issue with storage capacity. It would be better practice and make debugging of the system (hardware AND code) easier if there was one variable used for the potentiometer reading and one for the mapped speed value to send to the controller. That way both values can be displayed together if the need arises. In the code as written and shown in the video, the input value is lost when it is mapped to the output value.

Its just absolutely ridiculous how our species, starting off as upright walking monkeys hunting animals with sticks, found out enough about the very principles of our surrounding universe to consistently use the laws of physics in such an insanely effective way so that now, only a couple thousand generations of humans later, we can rotate little knobs to make tons of mass move, turn, levitate or do whatever else we want and at speeds faster than our very own brains can even comprehend. Unbelievable.

I have confusion on this video though. I learnt from your servo motor videos that we map 01023 to 0-180degree to control the POSITION of the servo motor. However, when we map the same thing to the BLDC motor, how is this going to convert it to the SPEED?

I wish the animations would have shown a return path for the signal and not just an open circuit BUT instead also showed the power supply being the common ground. I say this for the true newbies learning and might get confused about it. People learn at different paces.
If that's the worst criticism I have then [LIKE BUTTON] given.

The brushless motors I come across usually are those of fans for computers. They are either 2 or 3 pins. The 3 pins can be connected to a speed controller but they don't require to have one. The two pins I assume have the Hall Effect sensor, but those 3 pins with or without a speed controller is difficult to understand how they work.

I have a non working 3 phase fan motor. The speed controller and power supply is a complex wiring nightmare. Is there an after market controller that you can suggest to handle this 1. 4A fan motor? I would assume the motor of this size requires a larger controller than the one your showing here

My first time being exposed to brushless motors was a number of years ago when I use to build and fly drones (I need to get back into that hobby again. I also have two bigguns on my all-terrain electric skateboard. Now I'm learning about it because I'm an electrical apprentice. Good stuff!

Im just a snowboarder, not an engineer or anything but a few years ago I fell in love with riding Onewheel electric skateboards. They use a brushless hub motor, so I figured it was high time I dug into what that actually means!

Simple truth. Brushless differ in that the energized magnets are in the case and the permanent magnets are on the rotor assembly. No brushes to drag and wear out. More power can be induce more efficiently creating higher torque and rpms.

The magnets in your example are radially magnetised, axially would be along the axis of rotation of the motor.
Also for it to be a BLDC and not permanent magnet synchronous motor the back EMF should be trapezoidal.

When I see the description of brushless motors for modelers, there is a value in their description that the speed depends on the input voltage. Why is that so? I thought that the speed depends on the input frequency.

I have just two questions. If rpm of the motor are based on frequency from ESC how can I get higher rpm on higher voltage. And at the same setup (same ESC and voltage ) different rpm with different KV motor rating?

I had no idea hobby escs were using back emf to work out rotor position. I always thought they just spun the crap out of the magnetic field and hopped the rotor followed. Seriously cool. I learned something today

Okay, you got me. How can a little brushless CPU fan have this complex circuitry? There's no way. It can't be the same type of motor as the 3 phase motor you demonstrated with the Arduino, controller and all.

sir, how to rotate brushless motor with acceleration and deceleration. Can we do that? i want 2000 RPM 60 times slowdown, atleast twice per rotation. How please tell me.

What engineering discipline will learn this kind of stuff during university? Is it electrical engineering or mechanical engineering or automotive engineering?

The BLDC are is use one the E-bikes equiped with the BLDC in the front heel or rear wheel of the bike.
And with some bikes, it's located in the middle.

Would be nice also a brief explanation where 1023 came from. That because only Arduino has a 10bit ADC resolution, we are limited to 0-1023.

We use brushless motors in our modern electric trains that operates in our commuter lines. But without the permanent magnets in the rotor.
