I mean, living organisms such as humans, mammals, reptilians, birds and fish similar to bacteria, latch on to bodies in the form of other living organism as well as on the Planet itself.
A human for example will extract wood from forests to build his home, crops from the land and milk and cheese from certain mammals to satiate his appetite. Land on which to grow and develop his existance and undertake the steps necessary for the ascendance to prosperity for both himself and his kind. And might occasionally get into conflict with other humans in an attempt to secure the formentioned basic needs.
Indeed, in the process can be damaging to both the environment, other creatures, himself and Nature as a whole, similar to a bacteria, but in this case a bacteria who developed in way as to be capable of reason and compasion.

Used the old Crash Course at the time it came out and was a biology student myself. This new version is refreshing, yet I feel it's more oriented to highschoolers. (which is fine, I will this when teaching) Maybe it's because I'm older, or because this first ep is just introducing biology, I'm curious how it will grow further. So thanks for making a wider oriented version of Crash Course!

I personally prefer one of the newer approaches to the whole are viruses alive question, viewing the infected cell as the actual organism, and the viral load as the means of reproduction. In this way the virus is more akin to a mote of pollen.
Now PRIONS, THOSE are the TRUE edge case!

I love that you mentioned the connection to the reset of the universe! I like to think that everything is the hydrogen atoms from the beginning of the universe, fusing into heavier elements, and temporarily wearing different forms as time goes by.

Wonderful opening, and AMAZING host! Great to see sources cited, but isn't that doc giving away spoilers for the rest of the episodes? I recommend sharing it at the end of the series, or hiding the episode titles - if that's a concern.

I'll admit I was slight disappointed when Hank didn't appear, but damn Dr. Sammy absolutely crushed it. Fun, oozing with passion. Good stuff. Look forward to reviewing the wonderful world of biology with you.

some argue that the living state of virus is when he is inside the cell. and the virus itself would be more like a sperm looking for a egg
